I get emails from several mommy type sites and today one talked about EPO and pineapple when ttc. Is there really anything to this? I'm not saying I'm about to go out and stock up on pineapple or anything, I'm just curious. I'm also wondering if this stuff is just silliness, why bother sending it in an email, giving it equal attention as temping, which has merit?
Re: EPO and pineapple?
The connection is very weak - at least from a hard science perspective. Bromelain is the active ingredient in pineapple that they are talking about. It has been shown to be an effective therapy (in concentrated pill form) for several health issues. There's no valid scientific research (that I could find and I spent several hours reading articles on it) to show it helps here but if you're trying lots of things, it can't really hurt.
For the record, bromelain is concentrated in the core and stem but found throughout pineapple. Enjoying some fresh pineapple will also give you a dose of bromelain.
