I think it's fine. Yes, it has a Southern flavor and is most popular in the South and West (#32 in WY, #96 in KY, #100 in AL, etc.), but it's not unheard of in the northeast:

I completely adore this name, Shelby is one of my favorites but DH isn't on board.  Love Alice with it too.

It's alright but not my style.  Something about the "elb" sound in the middle that turns me off.  I do, however, love Alice.
