I am the exact opposite of everyone today...TMI

I am now hoping this LO stays put for at least a few days, while I heal.

Had a hair follicle get infected on my bikini line, right on the crease between my inner thigh and labia. Until a month ago I was still shaving down there without being able to bend over and see anything, and I had nicked myself. Because of ample blood supply to the area, when it got infected and swelled up it REALLY SWELLED. I haven't been able to walk or sit comfortably for three days, so yesterday I went to the OB to discuss options.

I was worried if I went into labor, it would either cause more pain (hahahaha MORE pain), or worse, somehow the infection could hurt the baby (who knows, right?) So the doctor checked me and we decided that since I'm only about 1cm dilated and cervix is still very long there's a good shot I'll have a little time to heal before going into labor.

PS I almost passed out on the table while they drained the abscess. So that gives me the impression that I will NOT handle labor well.

So I have a half inch incision down there that needs to heal before this baby comes. I'm 40 weeks today. What are the odds that will happen?

I just think it's funny that everyone is so anxious to have their babies (I was too until yesterday!), and now I'm like, "Whoa, slow down there baby, let's take our time here."

Thanks for taking the time to reading this, sorry for the overshare.

  • I know how you feel. While we are sharing TMI....

I have a boil on my crotch on the underside of my butt-cheek. I've had these from time to time since before puberty. Dermatologists have diagnosed them as anything from chronic acne to topical staph. I've drained it twice and it is one the mend. I would really like it to heal before baby comes just in case it is dangerous for babies. It isn't so bad for me, just annoying, but for baby it could be horrible!

I'm with you but my due date isn't for another six days so I'm not even in the mindset of "Get out, baby!" to begin with yet!

  • Oh, man, I've nicked myself in that "spot" before (pre-pregnancy, so it didn't get infected), and it seriously does not feel good. However, don't sell yourself short on the abcess-draining thing. Apparently there are women who will cry at stubbing their toe who can also give birth vaginally med-free. It's that whole "pain with a purpose" thing. ;)

I have mixed feelings about LO getting here. In theory, I'm ok with him waiting up until even the 42 week mark. I think my main concern now is about being induced. That's something I DON'T want. Even though I kind of want to get delivery over with and start recovering already. I also recently developed PUPPPs, and otherwise normal activities are starting to get pretty uncomfortable and put me in some pain, but... I don't know. I think I'm still ok with waiting :)

  • Ouch! That sucks! But I agree with PP, different kind of pain, I think, well I have nothing to compare it to but it seems to make sense.

I'm patient...I don't need this baby out ASAP. My sister and my mom both were so impatient that they used castor oil pre due date and it worked. To me it just seems selfish. It reminds me of the Marshmallow Study on the correlation of success and patience.

Right there with you. I hear pitocin is awful if you're trying to go without an epidural.

  • I'm sorry that sounds very painful. I am in the same boat as you as I'm in no rush for the baby to come as I am so sick and have had a fever for the last 3 days and the most horrible cough ever. My dr said its not bacterial so all I can do is rest, drink lots if fluids etc. I'm not due until tues so hopefully this baby doesn't make an early appearance. Being sick and in labor does not sound fun.
