Down Syndrome Blood Test came back abnormal

Just got the call from my doctor that my blood test for down syndrome came back abnormal. I am a wreck. She said it should be 1 in 1000 mine was 1 in 1267 I don?t even know what this means? They are referring me to geneticist at University of Chicago. Anyone else been through this. I feel so alone.

I haven't been through this, but try to remember that it's just a screening. There can be a false positive. I know that's hard to do right now. I will keep you and LO in my T&P.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't a chance of 1:1267 better than 1:1000? All the best hun, and try to remember its just a screening. Be brave for your baby have trust in your gut feeling about things!

Our doctor told us that those Screeings are known for false postives, try not to worry till you know for sure! We opted out of all the screeings, we figured if there was something wrong, we could not help it and if that is what God felt we could handle then we would deal with it.

We skipped the screening tests and went straight to the MaterniT21 test with this LO. My test came back positive for Down Syndrome. It's a non-invasive test that is just slightly less accurate than an amnio so we chose to accept the test results and not do the amnio.

The first while after finding out about the test results was a roller-coaster emotionally.  I found the babycenter's down syndrome pregnancy board and my local down syndrome support group. Dh and I met up with members of the support group when we were ready and that has helped us.

We got the test results at about 13/14 weeks and I'm now at 34.5 weeks and we're excited about meeting our little guy soon.

No experience but offering thoughts and payers. The test are a screening for your odds so try not to worry. You will have the option to have more definitive tests done if you so choose. The babycenter boards are a great place to find support as pp said. GL to you mama.

  The wasy you have this phrased means that most women your age have a 1/1000 risk of a down baby. yours came back you have 1/1267? if so that means you have less risk than someone your age??

I just took a test too and still waiting on results. I'm almost 11 weeks and the only reason they are doing this test is because the baby had more translucency fluid then wht is normal. I'm freaking out. Prayers your way!

We got a call from the Dr yesterday to come in ASAP to speak with the genetic counselor. I am 31, I got the N/S and bloodwork at 13 weeks. Went in at 16 weeks for a cervical scan and found out we are having a son and he looks extremely healthy. We went in yesterday to be told we have a 1 in 10 chance of having Ds. I am 17w 3d so I had the MaterniT21 blood test yesterday. It takes about two weeks to get the results back and we are anxiously awaiting. This is my first baby with 2 previous miscarriages, we were already high risk due to my cervix, but this brings on a whole other level of fears! Prayers appreciated!

We were told that a 1/1245 was a great number, perhaps because I am super old we did do the mat21 test but because of whatever reason they couldn't use my blood.

We are just going to wait and see what they anatomy scan shows

I am sorry you are going through this. Did the NT scan results come back abnormal in addition to the quad screen, or was you first screening normal and it came back abnormal the second time? Good luck! The waiting game sucks:/
