This group is open to anyone who has already gone through donor egg/donor embryo/gestational carrier, is in the process of it, or plans on doing it in the future.

 

This check-in posted each Tuesday.  If you?d like to be added to this group, please reply to this message, and I?ll make sure to add you for next week.  Welcome to the lurkers!  We know this can be a difficult journey, but we welcome you with open arms.  Let us know if we can answer any questions.

BabyVDM ? Probable diagnosis of age-related egg quality issue, cancer survivor! pursuing DE, contacted two West coast clinics, phone consult with PNWF, donor?s eggs added to frozen bank, conversation with clinic and they will hold 1-2 sets of eggs depending on number retrieved, phone consult rescheduled, repeat SA on 12/13, hoping for FET around the week of 2/12, u/s on 1/23, TSH OK, continuing on Lupron and estrogen patches, 3 beautiful frozen embryos! Lining looking good, transfer set for 4 PM last Thursday!    

 

erink1981 ? Pursuing DE after three losses and jumping into the domestic adoption process, Currently in DE IVF cycle (guarantee program), started Lupron on 1/13, met with MFM to discuss decisions about embryo transfer given other medical issues, recommended transferring 1 embryo, started on estrogen, DE retrieval anticipated for 2/13 or 2/14, lining looked good, donor started stims, retrieval set for last Friday, 3dt planned for Monday   

 

liz4paws ? No response to max stims with IVF, moving on to embryo adoption, signed up with Miracles Waiting, also on waiting list with RE for when they start their donor embryo program, accepted 5 frozen embryos from a woman in VA, working on paperwork and hope to have contract signed soon, found RE willing to do FET of embryos, frozen embryos arrived in Texas, started BCP?s and set to start Lupron, FET delayed from 2/8 to 2/11, Baseline and blood work complete, hoping for some insurance coverage for cycle

glueck ? Pursuing DE through a clinic in Czech Republic, tentative transfer date of 10/6, filled out anonymous donor selection paperwork and matched with donor, mock cycle has begun, ER estimated for 9/24-25 and ET for 9/29-30, delayed because Essure scarring process was not complete, transfer set for 12/9! Beta #1=291, betas still climbing strongly, many u/s with RE before graduating to OB, NT scan results looked great, diagnosed with placenta previa, but it has now cleared! Dealing with labile hypertension, C-section no later than 5/13, scale prompted L&D visit but everything is OK

Beta #1 = 820, Betas 2 and 3 were great, u/s on 10/1 showed one baby measuring right on track with a heartbeat of 125, first OB appointment on 10/22 uneventful, everything looked good at NT scan, put on baby aspirin because of blood pressure

 

sekura ? Had WTF for IVF#1 and decided that DE is best option, cycled at RBA?s frozen egg program, 3 out of 5 donor eggs fertilized, 5dt of 1 blast on 5/12, beta is 5/22, also have 2 frozen embryos ? BFP! Beta #1=306, Beta #2-818, NT scan and b/w all looked good

 

shyntrue ? Donor selected! Surgery to have septum removed, cycle postponed to December, had second SHG and uterus looked good, DE IVF#1 - 3dt of 2 embryos on 12/10, BFP! Beta #1=890, Beta #2=10,967, first u/s on 1/11 showed TWINS! NT scan scheduled for 2/24, two trips to the ER and an overnight hospital stay, extensive u/s showed (most likely) 2 boys! Failed 1-hour glucose test and going back for 3-hour, Boys have arrived!

Girls born early, they are home!  2-week NICU appointment and they are doing great, considering another DE cycle for a sibling, going to be a gestational carrier for another couple! Still on waiting list but just wanted to say I like this question and have my pen and journal ready to write down all the great tips of shot giving. MH just said last night too bad I can't get a "practice" shot first to see if I can handle it before putting down rest of deposit...

Update: nothing new, just waiting for my lining check on Friday. I am nervous because I fly out to my clinic and we're getting ready for a major snowstorm. Ugh! I hope my flight doesn't get delayed or cancelled. 

QOTW: My DH is a major wimp when it comes to needles, so I do all my shots myself. The hCG trigger and the PIO are a little awkward but doable. Everything else is pretty easy. With PIO I have read about and tried all the various tips out there, but the only thing I do is warm up the vial of PIO before injecting it. Then I just massage the area for awhile afterwards.

Update: we did a 3dt of 2 embies this past Monday. We transferred an 8 cell and a 9 cell. We should hear if we have any frosties by tomorrow. Beta is scheduled for 3/4. The 2ww is killing me and I'm only 3 days in I'm not feeling any symptoms which I know is normal. I'm starting to wonder when the progesterone effects will kick in. I'm not one for patience so I'm sure ill start POAS monday-ish  

QOTW:  When I was just on the lupron I did it myself in the stomach. Now that we are on PIO shots, I have DH give them. My first one was this past Friday and I don't think I massaged it enough and I did end up with a terrible bruise and it was very sore the next day, but they've gotten better since then. 

I mark the spot I want it to go wih a fingernail mark (cause I'm a contol freak like that). I wipe it with an alcohol pad and lay face down on he bed. Meanwhile DH warms the shot in his palm. I hug a pillow and DH injects. If it stings too much I tell him to slow down. About 1/2 hour after the shot, I get in a hot shower and massage my butt. Then when we go to bed I have DH rub it again it helped when I sat on a heating pad, but now I'm paranoid it will raise my temp too much and over-cook my embies hoping all these needle sticks are for the greater good!!!!!!

erink - I know what you mean about the 2ww! 

Update:  I'm 6(or is 7)dp5dt.  Had 'huge' boob changes immediately after transfer, but that went away about 2 days later.  They still sort of hurt but only when you touch them.  Yesterday we switched from morning PIO to evening, I had a small bit of brown spotting and a lot of cramping last night.  I'm trying to stay positive and believe that it is implantation spotting, or just a little blood from the transfer. 

I went to my family Dr yesterday to follow up on a routine MRI I had the week before transfer.  They found something that needs further investigation to rule out cancer.  It wasn't what I expected.  I'm more than a little freaked out.  I mean I know it's probably nothing, but it has to be investigated so of course I'm castrophizing and imagining all the worst case scenarios.   The fact is, that it is probabaly nothing to worry about. 

Beta was set for Sunday but lab is only open Monday (so I'm going to poas) on Sunday. 

QOTW:  I let DH take care of most of my shots and meds. We did the Lupron in the evenings.  It was actually a lot easier and less painful for me to give myself the lupron shots, but DH did them anyway because I wanted him to get comfortable.

When it came time to start the patches DH put them on at first it as because we were putting them on my back. Now just because I like it when he does. 

PIO were a different matter, I was freaked out by the needle and couldn't image trying to do it myself.  So DH gives me the PIO.   It actually works out pretty well.  I ice before the shot and I heat afterwards.  DH then massages it for a few minutes.  We had to start them in the mornings for the first 6 days.  DH is not at his best in the morning, the day before transfer he only gave me .5cc instead of the full 1cc so I had to have 2 shots that day, and then one the next morning.  So we switched to evenings.  Which meant I need to have .5 in the morning and again in the evening the day before yesterday and then full cc last night.  I've tolerated it quite well, I have not bruising but have to admit as the days go on, my butt is getting a little tender.   It's not as bad as I thought it would be.

BabyDVM-Hope that you can stop googling and catastrophizing about the MRI that needs further follow up, I always try to remember that catastrophizing is never going to change the outcome on anything.  Hope that you are right and it is nothing.  GL when you POAS on Sunday.

Moonaggie-We will likely have similar calendars.  My DE retrieval is planned for 4/2-4/4.

Status Update: Where are you currently with the DE/DEmbryo/ GC process?  We have our calendar.  Started second pack of BCP today.  Lupron starts on 3/8, Baseline is on 3/18.  Expected ER is between 4/2-4/4.  Transfer likely between 4/5-4/9.

 

QOTW: How do you deal with the injections for your cycle(s)? Does your DH/SO give them to you or do you do them yourself? Any hints on how to make it less painful/annoying?

I do my own injections-I am a nurse and my husband is legally blind-and is too gentle of a soul to ever stick me with a needle.   Lupron is easy peasy, PIO no so much.  My REs nurse taught me to stand against the doorjam-cannot do it that way though.  I just twist around, stick-pull back, inject and then apply pressure.  Have always taken warm bath after PIO shots and never had any problems.

QOTW: My DH was doing my shots until I had to go out to Maryland for my transfer so had to do them by myself.  At that time, I just got used to doing them again, so have been giving them to myself.  I do PIO every night and Del Estrogen every third night.  I'm definitely getting sick of it, and I have tough areas now where the needle doesn't want to go in.  Sometimes I have to try a couple of different places.

So happy to see this update JM!!!  Congrats!!

I don't have much of an update on me...still waiting for all of my immune testing results to come in and then they will schedule the phone consult, so the actual date is still TBD.  I pretty much knew I wouldn't be cycling in March, but I'm still hoping that April is a possibility.

QOTW:  My husband does all of my I/M shots (including PIO).  I guess I have a lot of padding back there (LOL), so the individual shots don't bother me too much (sometimes I barely feel them).  However, I will say that by the end of my last cycle, I was starting to have back pain, which I think was related to all of the I/M shots.  Lucky me, some nights I had two I/M shots (delestrogen and PIO), so we did one shot per cheek!

JM, congrats on your great u/s!  Very exciting. 

Would you please add me for next time? BFP after first DE cycle.  5dt of one embie resulted in our baby girl who is still baking and is expected to arrive June 16, 2013. Our donor will cycle for us again in April.  We are hoping for frosties this time around, which will be our last no matter the outcome.

QOTW:
When I was on Lupron I would give myself most of the shots.  The PIO I made DH give me.  They didn't really hurt, but there's no way I could shove that huge needle in my rear.
