Numbness Question

I haven't posted too often on this board, but I am here daily lurking and reading to learn from other MoM's. My question for you ladies is did you or have you experienced numbness around your belly button. I mentioned it Monday at my OB appointment but she didn't seem overly concerned since it was the first time I noticed it, but now I am noticing it every afternoon and it seems like the patch of numbness is growing. It does happen to be in the same place as my stretch marks, so I am assuming it is just from stretching. I think I am going to call my OB tomorrow and check because I don't think it is something I need to call about tonight. TIA

Re: Numbness Question

  • I don't know if it's related but I had total numbness in a 4 or 5 inch circle near the bottom of my right ribs for about 4 months. My OB said it was just the way that DD was laying or pushing on some nerves. It finally went away with delivery and it never caused me any problems. If it would make you feel better I'm sure a call to your OB wouldn't hurt but I agree that waiting until tomorrow would be reasonable. Good luck!

  • Oh yes. The area around my belly button was very numb once I started to get big (probably mid 20s). I once mentioned it to my OB and she just laughed.

  • I have the same thing. It's not extreme numbness per se but it is significantly decreased sensation around my whole lower abdomen. Mostly, like you said, where my stretchmarks are. I suppose stretchmarks are scars so they don't have nerve endings like normal tissue. Just my assumption. I hadn't even thought to ask my OB about it, I just assumed it was normal.
