Parenting after a Loss

Oh fudge stomach bug

DS has thrown up 3 times since 5:15pm 2 hrs so I'm pretty certain we are dealing with a stomach bug. This is the first time in our house so I'm a little at a loss of what to do. I'm trying to give him some pedialyte right now but he's not having it. Any tips/advice is welcome. Help!

ETA when do I call the dr? Worry? Already worried actually since this is new territory

Re: Oh fudge stomach bug

  • The stomace bug is also inhabiting our house.  I got thrown up on Sunday night and am on the tail end of having it myself.  All you can do is try to keep them hydrated.  DD won't drink the pedialyte either but she loves cold water, so I made sure her sippy cup was always full.  Keep an eye on the diaper output.  As long as they stay consistant then you just need to ride it out.  If he isn't soiling his diaper at all, gets a fever or has other symptoms then call the Dr.  Once he's feeling better, bananas are a great food for them as they replace the potassium often lost by hurling.

Hugs to you and I hope it passes quickly and that you don't get it.

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this! We had the stomach bug over here too so I feel your pain.

If your pedi has call-in hours, I think it wouldn't hurt to call and just get their thoughts on the best way to keep him hydrated. I talked to our pedi's nurses a few times during DD's rough bout with this. Their advice was to focus on hydration and not to worry about keeping food down - just get fluids in and the LO will eat again when s/he's able. They were also OK with my DD not drinking for longer periods as long as she was still peeing. That made me nervous though so we did really try to keep her hydrated.

If your LO has the bug that's been going around here, be aware you may start seeing diarrhea as well.

I hope he gets over this very soon! It's so hard to see them not feeling well.

This. We are just getting over it in our house. DH has it and I'm actually sitting in the car with DD while he is inside seeing the Dr.

Check E's shopping cart, wasn't that where it was before? LOL.

He's doing ok. Went to DC, had a blow out and has been fussy, taking a long nap but no more puking since last night.

  • We had the stomach bug in our house a few weeks ago.  Our pedi told us to keep on eye on fever, try small amounts of pedialyte every few hours and to call if he didn't have at least one wet diaper every 8 hours.
