Horrible room for Nursery

Help! I live in an old school house. All my walls are made out of a weird wooden wall board. In the bedrooms there is a hideous orange carpet. We are renting so I can't paint the walls or redo the carpet. I want to have a cute nursery, but the room is just ugly!

Any cute decorating ideas? The only thing I can think of is get a huge rug.

The pinterest lover in me is very sad I can't paint clouds or a tree on the wall :(

Oh, and moving isn't an option as of right now ;)

Re: Horrible room for Nursery

  • My first thought is to do a vintage or woodland nursery theme, or some combination of the two.  The Lay Baby Lay blog has a ton of ideas, here are some  boards that incorporate orange.

  • Thanks! If we have a boy we are going to try for a noah's ark theme, for a girl I have no idea. I just hope we can find a rug big enough to cover the whole room. Ugh. I have a lot of work cut out for me ;)

  • Could you get a huge piece of something, plywood maybe, and paint on it and somehow lean it or attach it to the wall?  Hang some fabric maybe?  You could get it by the bolt and make it look like wallpaper perhaps.

I also found a link for a product that you can use to create patterns/paint on the rugs... It looks more interesting than it sounds: https://www.veccostudio.com/Home.aspx

I'm not great at DIY/decorating stuff.  Let us know what you come up with!

ETA: Reading fail.. I just saw that you're renting, so I guess the carpet paint doesn't help. Geez, good luck!

  • Would some wall decals stick to the wood walls? In our last house we used the stick on decals. it was a big bright tree, clouds, a sun and even some bumble bees.  I hope you get some fun ideas.

  • Can you find some cute fabric and cover one of the walls? If it is thin wood you could probably just pushpin it a few places to stay up. That might help dampen sound as well. I would buy a big rug if it was me. We are moving to a rental with old carpet I don't like. I have a big rug to cover the ugly and because the old carpet seems kind of nasty. I got cheap rugs at Ross.

  • You could do the theme after the book "Where the Wild Things Are"
  • I would hang a huge mural on the wall.
