Sippy Cups and Whole Milk

How are you all doing with this transition?

DS is having a hard time with sippy cups and straw cups.  He will only take a few sips of water, but refuses cup when I put in milk.

Also with first birthday coming up, March 8th, and I am on my last container of formula, I am trying to figure out how to start milk transition.

What are you doing?

 thanks for the advice!!

Re: Sippy Cups and Whole Milk

  • We ended up with a Playtex sippy cup. This one. She hated all others, especially the straw one. https://www.playtexbaby.com/CupsMealtime/The-First-Sipster-Cup

When we first started trying to get her to take the cup not me holding it, she would only take it with formula in it.

  • I have that one but haven't tried it yet. I have 3 different sippy cups and one straw cup.

I will have to try them each out see which one he likes better

    thanks!

  • We already started. She's been off bottles for just about a week and is drinking everything out of a sippy. (I'm lucky in that she hasn't met a sippy cup that she doesn't like so we use a few different kinds.) I started giving her a small cup of WCM with breakfast and dinner and she loves it. So I will continue that for another couple weeks and then at a year I'll start replacing her sippies of formula with milk. She has 3 a day now.

  • I have been thinking about this a lot.  I can't wait to get rid of bottles!  DD takes water from a sippy at meals, but it is an ounce or less.  It feels like it will be forever until she gets to really truly drinking from a sippy!  I might just pour some milk in it at a bottle time and see how it goes.  The nice thing about WCM vs BM is that I won't feel so bad if I waste some.

i feel the same. I don't want to waste formula and he only takes a few sips of water from cup now. Maybe I just need to offer it to him more often, and find a cup that he likes, and then start adding milk, once he is used to using cup with water first.

i want to start getting him to drink WCM because I don't want to buy anymore formula..it's so expensive

I only would do 1-2 oz of formula in the cup at a time so it wouldn't be wasted. As soon as she was done with, back in the fridge. Would use that same cup all day, often into the next day. Until she was used to it, she would use the same cup of formula at 4 meals often. B, L, D, then B again the next day.
