My parents, who purge everything, actually saved my old potato heads, and gave them to DS a month ago. He loves them! The funny thing is, when I looked to buy him more accessories, they sell the potato heads with the EXACT same ones that they did 25+ years ago.
I had the same issue. I ended up buying an old Mr. Potato Head Silly Suitcase from ebay. There are tons of Potato Head stuff on there, but some of it is a bit pricey. Totally worth it though--my kid loves her Mr. Potato Sauce (as she calls him--don't know why!).
We just got back from Disney World and there is a store at Downtown Disney, Once Upon a Toy and you can jam as many pieces into a box as you want and as long as the box closes you are golden! so for $20 DD has a ton of new parts to play with!
Kohls had a giant set over the holidays. They may still have them online
Also check consignment places. THey are always there for cheap. Just yesterday I was at Once Upon A Child and just a quick glance through the toy section and I saw a bunch of them, for 3-5 dollars a set.
eBay, consignment, or getting lucky at a garage sale... Wish I had saved more stuff from childhood, especially Legos... It's all the same stuff, just 300x more expensive now.
We got DD one at Christmas from Costco. $20 and it came with 2 spuds and I think 30 parts (?) in a giant Potato Head. I have seen similar sets at Kohls too.
