GD Question

So I failed the 1 hour and need to do the three hour. I also found out that I have low iron. What did you all do to prep for the three hour test? I have mine on Saturday morning.

TIA

Re: GD Question

  • There's no prepping for these tests--follow your doctor's orders for fasting, if they require that. If you are GD, you don't want to skew the results, you want to be treated properly as this is not something you want to mess with.

However, keep in mind that many people seem to fail the 1-hour and pass the 3-hour, so failing one does not guarantee that you have GD.

     Best of luck to you!

  • I did nothing to prep for any of the tests except fast as directed by the doctor. Usually that's about 8-12 hours before the 3 hr test. Unless your doctor specifically told you otherwise, eat as you normally would in the days leading up to the test.

  • Ok, I was told to load up on Carbs for the three days before the test so I just wasn't sure.

  • I was told to eat a healthy meal for dinner the night before of protein and veggies, and cut down on the sugar. You need to fast after that meal at least 1012 hours prior to your test. With that said, I have no GD, but borderline. So I'm still put on a diabetic diet, just not as strict. Good luck!

I was told this as well....My test was on a Saturday, so Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I had to eat at least 150 grams of carbs each day.  It didn't matter if I went over, but I couldn't be under.  I also had to fast from 8:30 pm Friday night (my test was at 8:30am on sat).

For prepping regarding non-medical, make sure to bring some entertainment.  Books, magazines, an Ipod, etc.  Luckily there was another lady there having her test too so we chatted the whole time, but if I had been alone that three hours surely would have been boring.  The lab I went to did provide a TV (I was put in the employee break room) but it's better to come prepared.
