A while back, someone posted about making baby food. I want to say she said something about being "crazy" for wanting to make her own food, and was looking for tips. One of the comments was extremely detailed, and she said she made a day of it, and listed everything she would make/freeze. I remember reading that and liking that comment to use for future reference, but for the life of me can't find it. Does anyone remember this or know what I'm talking about?! Thanks :
Re: Help finding a post
I found it!!
I make about 80% of my baby food but still use pouches when we are out and for meat. The only meat I make is chicken, everything else I buy the jarred. For me I wanted to make sure I knew what I was giving them, but millions of babies do just fine and thrive on jarred food. I make huge batches every few onths, so far I had done three big batches and a few smaller ones. This is a typical 'big batch' example. 12 sweet potatoes (wash, prick, bake, scrape out, pur?e, freeze.) 8 butternut squash (wash, cut, deseed, bake, scrape, pur?e), 14 Apples (peel, slice, boil, pur?e, freeze), 12 avocado (pur?e, freeze), 20 Bananas (pur?e, freeze), 14 Pars (peel, slice, boil, pur?e, freeze), 2 bags of Apricots (boil with liquid, pur?e, freeze), 4 cans of Black Beans (pur?e, freeze), 4 cans of Garbanzo beans, 5lb bag of carrots (peel, boil or roast, puree, freeze) I have now also done chicken (boil pur?e freeze), blueberries, blackberries, peaches, mango, strawberries, I buy the berries, peaches, and mangos in the frozen chunks because or produce sucks right now. It is amazing how much money you save making your own, but you can search for good baby food deals/coupons as well. To make a huge batch like I listed it takes me maybe 6 hours of cooking/hands on. I can bake multiple things at nice then I just have to wait to freeze them becaus I only have 10 ice cube trays. I stay home but even then it's sometimes a struggle to get it all done. A website that has been invalueable to me is www.wholesomebabyfood.com. It has recipes, tips, storage ideas, combos, and great guidelines on how juvn and when to make what, I don't judge anyone on baby food, you have to do what works best for you. The good thing about its that you could split up making food into a couple f nights/days while the babies are sleeping and still get it done. If I were to feed my babies only store bought, we would be going through 6-10 containers a day +oatmeal (which I do buy already made). I buy organic so it those were pouches that would be up to 15.00/day, if it was the Gerber tubs, about 8.00/ day. You are a fantastic mom no matter what you decide, if you are able to make your own great if not they will be totally fine.
