Has anyone bounced back after twins?

I see all these posts weekly about the aftermath of twins and the scarring, stretch marks and extra skin etc., of having twins.  But has anyone of you ladies actually had a good experience with bouncing back after having your twins?  After I had DS, I was back to my pre-pregnancy weight by 6 weeks, and even though my stomach had a little extra skin, It looked pretty normal at 6 months or so.  So, keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Has anyone bounced back after twins?

  • I lost all of my weight by 6 weeks, but my belly sure doesn't look like it used to. My boys are just under 4 months though. Trying to give it at least until June before I start becoming too sad about it.

  • I'm taking the opposite approach. I'm expecting a ton of stretch marks and flabby after-belly, regardless of weight. If I get lucky, bonus, but I'm not holding out hope. Two babies are going to stretch stuff far beyond what one did, and DD was over 8 lbs.
  • There are plenty of moms who come out unscathed, even in my triplet group. I was just not so lucky. :

  • My boys are almost 11mo. I was on bedrest for 10 wks before delivering and gained 69lbs. They were 7.3 and 7.9 at birth. I haven't really exercised much or dieted and still feel I look pregnant. Hoping to start exercising more now that they have a routine.

  • I had lost 85 pounds before I got pregnant with my boys- so I already had stretch marks- and IMHO they are not that bad.  So I gained back 50 pounds- got no additional stretch marks.and my stomach was back to what it was before the boys- not totaly flat- but I was back in my smallest size jeans in 2 weeks.

Now I have gained some weight back- I stress eat and I have had some bad scary things happen to my Dad in the last 6 months.

  • I did! not one stretch mark. Was down to pre preg weight at 4 weeks and at 12 weeks, I weighed less than before I got preggo! I think nursing had a lot to do with the weight loss. As for the gain while I was pregnant.. I was pretty active and didnt indulge very often. I ate when I was hungry and ate to noursih the babies..  My weakness was FROYO 2-3 times per week.

    You have hope!!

Yup (other than the triplet part ;)).

My stretch marks really don't bother me though; they faded to a pale silvery color. It's the twin skin and the way my fat redistributed itself that bug me. On the plus side, I've been more in shape since having kids though than I was before.

Oh, also ... I thought my rib cage had permanently expanded and I would never be the same band size I was before, but I'm finally back there. It just took 3.5 years. Weird, eh? My hips are also actually a tad smaller than pre-pregnancy and most of my other measurements are, too. But even though I'm at pre-pg weight, my waist and midsection are definitely bigger, and I can't seem to wear any low-rise pants anymore without creating a muffin top. That's my least favorite change.

  • I was astonished by how well my body handled pregnancy. I was below my pre-pregnancy weight at 3 weeks PP and had no stretch marks and my belly was HUGE at the end. My skin is in no way toned but I have a relatively flat stomach and have for months. Everyone is different. I was totally prepared to wear my saggy skin and stretch marks as badges of honor once my babies were born however I'm thankful that I don't have to.

  • Yep i bounced right back. Gained 29 and lost all of it and more with pure newborn craziness within a week or 2. I was measuring 46w! Had them at 36

Awesome!! Good for you. Do you mind me asking how much you gained during your pregnancy? Breastfeeding definitely helps!!

  • I think I did ok.  My boys were 10 weeks early, but I did gain 55-60 lbs by those 30 weeks.  I have 1 tiny stretch mark over where my belly button was previously pierced and my stomach is basically as flat as it was before.  I have a little extra skin that seems loose when I sit down, but not enough that it even stops me from wearing a 2-piece bathing suit so...

  • Oh I came out of mine lower than my pre-pregnancy weight immediately after birth, only minimal extra fat, no "new" stretch marks (just the ones I got during my first pregnancy), no "twin skin", etc... I just have a giant scar due to an ovary trying to kill me during the 2nd trimester....

  • I wouldn't say my body is just the same but I looked pretty good a couple months out and continued losing weight while BFing.  Now that I've weaned I gained a few lbs back but most people would never guess I carried twins.  I have no belly stretch marks.  However I delivered at 28 weeks.  I would have taken all the stretch marks and twin skin had it meant healthy full term babies.  Just keep that in mind.
  • My scar is so ugly but then I look at my two beauties that came from it and its my badge of honor!
  • I'm almost 3 years out.  I am in the best shape of my life with the strongest core I've ever had.  I was also hell bent and determined to get here and it took a lot of hard work.

my abs are still separated, but I strengthened my inner core first so I could control the separation during situps, etc.  I still have loose skin, but don't really care

  • I lost all of the weight I gained within 6 weeks of delivery. I am not almost 10 lbs below my pre-preg weight. However, my stomach definitely has some extra skin and the stretch marks are unbelievable.

  • At 10 months out, I've got ~6 pounds to get to my pre-pregnancy weight, at which I was very fit and happy (was running 25+ miles a week). I have no stretch marks. I lost 40 of the 50 I gained within the first two weeks and the rest slowwwly faded away. I haven't done much to do this...I run a few times a week, but have not been watching my food. I credit two bouts of stomach bugs to the loss :/

I expected the worst, and it turned out not so bad. I am far from where I once was, but I am in all my old clothes. Things have shifted and sagged a little, but I will be able to wear a two piece again.

  • I was down all but 8 lbs by 6 weeks and that was gone by the time they were 9 months old, and I wasn't BFing or working out regularly. I lost 10 lbs when they started walking and am about 5 lbs lower than where I was when I got PG just because I am so busy with them. Being a SAHM has me way more active than my desk job ever did. I never thought I'd be thinner post-babies but, here I am, skinnier than I was in my mid-20s.

Twins were born in Nov 2010 and stretch marks were mostly faded by the middle of that summer (with a little help from Mederma for stretch marks) and any loose skin can be hidden with slightly higher cut swimsuit bottoms.

  • Well it's certainly good to hear that some of you ladies have had success with bouncing back.   I am not expecting to come out unscathed, but it's good to know there is hope to get my body back somewhat.  AND of course, I want to carries these babies for as long as I can!

  • I lost the 65 lbs I gained in about four months. My skin is not as tight as it was before and my waist is bigger, but I can still wear a bikini.

  • I lost all my weight within 4 weeks.  I didn't have any stretch marks (but I think those are more genetic than anything - no women in my family have ever had stretch marks from pregnancy) and my stomach went back to it's prepregnancy state after about 6 months but I work out a lot.

So, yes, you can bounce back.
