Hello! My son is almost 8 months old. He has been sitting on his own for a little over a month. He's doing good though he still has an occasional tumble which upsets him. I was wondering if there was any advice on how to help him learn to get in the sitting position himself. He looks like he wants to sometimes slightly throwing his legs in the air (he does this also when I hold out my hands for him to pull himself up on so I'm assuming that's what the legs are about).
At what age do babies typically start being able to get themselves in the sitting position.
Thanks!
Re: Sitting Up
I know all babies are different but this site has helped me see where my daughter is when it comes to milestones: https://www.babycenter.com/0_milestone-chart-7-to-12-months_1496587.bc
That being said, my daughter has been sitting up for about a month now and can on her own. All babies grow and develop at their own pace
Our baby girl is 7-months and sits when put down by someone no problem and stays for ever, but she also cannot get herself up.
She has the strength just not the coordination.
When we see her trying to sit, we offer encouragement, hanging a toy for her to grab (she has been pulling herself up with it sometimes), and sometimes I will push her little feet down (because when she is trying to sit her legs go up in the air not allowing her upper body to get up) when I push her feet down she props right up all proud and smiles!
Good luck. These babies have minds of their own
I love this chart! Use it all the time.
My 8-month-old still can't sit up by himself, but he can stand (alone) while holding onto something. I have to keep reminding myself about the baby's-own-pace thing because I constantly worry he hasn't hit this milestone.
He has strength, just no sense of balance.
