need any/all ideas for poop training!

I know it is asked a million times but I am desparate.  Here is a quick background and where we are with the process.  DS is 3 years, 1 month and was easily trained for peeing as of Labor Day weekend this year.  we put him in underwear immediately because a) he was very motivated by underwear and b) I wanted him to be in either underwear or diapers, kind of an all or nothing approach.  he wears pull ups for naps and nightime and that is it.  He is very successful with peeing  but has had zero success with poop meaning that I am changing poop underwear twice a day.  I am always positive about it and remind him poop goes in the potty, but don';t get angry at him or make a huge deal out of it. He has said before that he is scared to go poop on the potty. He also says that big boys go on the potty and he wants to be a big boy, etc.  However, even though I know they need to be ready does anyone have any suggestions that might help encourage him?  I have asked him if he wants to wear dipaers again, because I wanted to make sure that he wanted to still be in underwear and give him the choice and he is adament that he does not wnat to be in diapers. so any ideas would be great--TIA!

  • My DS was the same way.  I think the main thing for him was just time.  Once he was ready he did it.  I have noticed that giving him a little prune juice ( I use the gerber apple-prune) helped.  It makes him not have to push so much, so he is likely to go.  We also use a sticker chart, which he loves, but i'm not sure it would have made a difference if he wasn't ready.
