wont take pacifier

My lo wont take a pacifier. Is this normal for some kids? Is it too late to keep trying? Everyone I talk to finds it odd that she doesn't like it.

Re: wont take pacifier

  • Not every baby is a pacifier fan. If you want LO to take one, keep offering it and see if it works.

yes this. Also for awhile it seemed like my DS didn't like them because it seemed like he was pushing it out but in fact just didn't have the concept of sucking on it to keep it in.  He can now keep it in and loves which we encourage (despite some negative comments from other people)

  • Have you tried different brands? Sometimes kids just don't like certain ones.

  • Mine wont either! My first 2 did, but this one pushes it out. Rarely, if I hold it in and rock him, he will suck until he is asleep, but any other time, he pushes it out. He is starting to suck his thumb, so I am going to keep on the paci.
  • My LO used one for a few weeks but that was about it.  She prefers her fingers. If LO doesn't like it I wouldn't push it.

  • Definitely normal. My LO won't take one and I didn't when I was a baby either.

  • mine doesnt either, but I don't push it.  Would you want someone forcing something into your mouth if you didnt want it..? I wouldnt :(  why do you want him to take one? Mine if fine without it so I just dont even try.  I think a lot of people give their babies to get them to keep quiet, but why? If they are crying then they need something so dont just stick a pacifier in there.  Just my opinion!!
