How much does your BF LO spit up?

I don't know what's normal and what's a problem. I don't remember DS spitting up so much. DD spits up a pretty decent amount after each feeding. It's like milk just pours out of her mouth.

Any ideas on what's normal and what to do? Other than sit her up after feeding?

Thanks!

  • Same here.. Sometimes it's nothing sometimes it's like a river. As long as lo isn't arching back or cries after I was told pretty normal... :/ although it doesn't seem it!!

  • I think DD spits up a decent amount, but DH doesn't seem to think it's a lot. It usually looks like straight milk unless it's been awhile since she ate. She doesn't seem to be distressed by it, so I'm trying not to let it bother me.

  • DS1 spit up a lot. He always wore a bib, we went through multiple outfits and multiple burp cloths a day.  It was always everywhere and didn't get better until after he learned to sit up on his own for awhile.

  • My baby was spitting up after every feeding too.  Then, I started cutting certain foods out of my diet and now he rarely spits up, and it's usually when I ate something I shouldn't have.  So, I gave up decaf coffee, tomato sauce, chocolate, and anything spicy.

  • Recently she's been spitting up more often/more of it. I definitely have to spend more time keeping her upright because it most often happens during night feedings when I try to change her diaper mid-feeding. I use a pillow to prop her head up while I'm changing her now because I feel bad for her when it comes up.
  • LO doesn't spit up much.  I can count on one hand how many times she's spit up. Our Pediatrician said that all baby's will spit up and it will likely seem like it's more than it really is.

  • 5.5 week old DD never does.  She straight up vomited out formula when we had to supplement that once but she keeps all breast milk down.  If she does spit up during a burp it is so little that she swallows it before it comes out of her mouth.
  • DD spits up what I feel is a lot! She's ebf and I have to burp her at least once in the middle of feeding, usually when/if she pulls herself off. And even then she'll spit/burp up at least 2x, tonight was 3x per feed. The night before last I wanted to scream, 2x she threw up what was an amount large enough to soak my right boob that was still covered by the nursing tank and then the nursing bra. She doesn't seem in pain or uncomfortable so I'm waiting til we go back to the pediatrician unless that changes.
