7 week old not napping?

So Brayden used to nap about every other feed during the day and sleep very well at night 3 hour stretches with instant pass out after eating.

Now he doesn't nap at all during the day except for maybe 15 min once or twice. He is still sleeping great at night with even a 5 hour stretch at either 6 to 8...
What gives with the lack of naps??

He's not particularly cranky until about 5

Edit the Bump ate my punctuation!!

Re: 7 week old not napping?

  • Around 6-7 weeks LO's go through a tough time as their world starts to become a little clearer.  He could be going through a growth spurt (my LO didn't sleep at all when she had hers).  My LO was sooooo very fussy at 6 weeks but around 8 weeks it started to level out and by the time 12 weeks rolled around it was even better!! Have you checked out The Wonder Weeks?

  • The wonder weeks are definitely not an exact science but you have to calculate from your due date not LO's birthdate.  But like I said, 7 weeks is a tough time but I promise it'll get better :) Hang in there!

  • We went through the same thing with my little one.  It was soooo frustrating from weeks 7 to present (almost 10 weeks).  She is currently taking naps in the morning and afternoons are a struggle.  I read a VERY helpful book.  "Healthy sleep habits, Hapy Child".  It surprised me that you actually have to teach them to fall asleep, and that they should not be up for more than 2 hours at this age.  My schedule is this, and I have been doing it for about the past 3 to 4 weeks.  I put her down to bed at about 7 or 8 at night, the book tells you an earlier bedtime is actually better.  She usually sleeps till about 1 or 2 but has actually slept till 3 a few times.  Some nights are off and it is 12, but anyway, she will get up again 3 or 4 hours later at 5 or 6 am, I put her back down and she will usally wake up for good ay 8ish.  We feed, play and then back down around 9 or so.  From then on we go in 2 to 3 hour intervals on the same schedule.  The book also says that night time sleep actually comes first and develops more in a routine, then the next to develop is the morning naps and then at about 4 to 6 months the afternoon naps develop.  As for keeping them asleep, this was a huge deal.  My little girl would go to sleep for like 20 minutes and wake up, (she still does at times).  I swaddle her up tight, rock her and also at times use a noise machine.  Hope this helps!!!!
  • Yes after I wrote this post I tried some different techniques... Put him in his room alone.... Swaddled for a nap.... Rocked to sleep then laid him down.. He took a nice nap from 4 to 7. Ate then went down for bed. We've never had to "put" him to sleep he always went out on his own so maybe we need to start establishing nap times now!! Thanks ladies!
