ERGO Recommendation

So we have a BabyBjorn Air, which I love, but as DD gets bigger (she's actually still very tiny - barely 15 lbs), it gets less comfortable to carry her.  The ERGO's seem more suited to carrying larger babies/toddlers.  Does anyone have experience with both, or with using an ERGO with a larger child?  If you do use an ERGO - which one?  There are so many and it's a bit overwhelming.  They are also a lot of money, so I want to be sure before making the purchase, but I'm hoping it won't be too much of a waste because DH and I are TTC and I think two carriers will come in handy anyway because we like to hike a lot.  (Well, when it's not freezing and snowing all of the time  - oh how I dream of spring and summer every day!)

  • Pardon for the slightly off topic butt in - but I baby wear a lot with my DD and I got the Boba (used it from newborn and plan to keep using it indefinitely) if is nice for all the baby stages and can go up until they are like 4. It has never hurt my back. I feel like it was well worth the investment because I am going to get years of use out of it.

There are lots of other sites that have them cheaper and the show up on various daily deal sites as well. :)

Sorry. Just thought I would throw my 2 cents in. I know the Ergo is extremely popular - I tried both and felt like the Boba was more versatile.

    Good luck!

  • Evenflo natural fit works for us.. the first carrier we bought was way too tight around the thighs.  He loves this carrier and works  a treat if he is fussing.. sleeps like a....babyWink  It's the only way he will goto Walmart without pitching a fit too lol

  • We started off with the Moby, which I loved and so did DS.  I mainly wore it around the house though.  When we went out he was in the BabyBjorn (I think the original one), however by 15 pounds it was really hurting my lower back.  We went without a carrier for a couple of months, before purchasing the Ergo original.  I love it and DS does too.  I think he really missed being carried so snuggly-close to his mama:) I am still trying to figure out how to get him into the back carrying position on my own.  I would definitely recommend the Ergo.
  • The Ergo is awesome!  DD is 11 months old and weighs about 19 pounds and I've been wearing her in the Ergo since she was about 5 months old.  It is expensive because it is a good quality carrier.  It is well worth the money.  I can wear her for hours at a time and it is super comfy.  No offense but the baby bjorn sucks.  You will feel the difference once you get a good quality carrier.

  • Also, if you want a less expensive carrier that is still WAY more comfortable than the baby bjorn try the Infantino wrap and tie.  It's not as comfy as the Ergo but it will be more comfortable than the bjorn and I think it's only like 35 bucks.

  • Wow, thanks for all of the feedback.  Now I don't feel like I am being crazy and wasteful wanting another carrier.  I'm frustrated because I thought I had done a lot of research before getting the Bjorn, but all well.  I've been looking up everyone's recommendations and they all look great.  Now I don't know which one to get!  It seems like there is overwhelming support for the Ergo - so I may go that route, I do like the Boba that a PP recommended as well though.  Thanks again!
