Is it normal I still don't feel myself? I'm still sweating a ton,my hands are still swollen, and my stomach is upset. I've been dealing w bad insomnia so maybe that's why. I was just wondering if anyone was still feeling crappy?
Hang in there ladies. Your body went through a major trauma and it's only been 7 days. The worst part of my Csection was how much it kicked my butt. I just wanted to up and around and back to normal like I was with my vaginal deliveries and it just didn't happen that quick with the Csection.
Have some patience and let your body heal. I promise each day will get better and better.
Steroids always give me insomnia -- badly. Also, at times, pain medication can actually make me wired instead of sleepy; it totally depends.
One thing to keep in mind is that some of what you are experiencing is normal postpartum stuff, just you have to add in the surgical recovery when you have a c-section, too. So you will have night sweats from the hormone changes, regardless of type of delivery. I often have those for weeks... with my second DD, I actually got a fever and chills for a night when my milk came in. I felt AWFUL. But that was just a bonus and not related to the c-section. And since I get frequent migraines when not pregnant, I find the hormone drops (and lack of sleep) after baby make those worse, too. Lots will go on.
So yes, totally normal to still feel crappy, unfortunately! Your body is adjusting to a lot, c-section or no c-section. But it will get better and more quickly than you'd think.

Pre-e w/DD #1 -- now age four!
GD and PIH w/DD#2 -- now age two!
GD and unexplained third trimester bleeding with baby # 3 -- due Feb 27!
P.S. If you are taking the advil/ibuprofen for pain relief, that can really upset your stomach. That might be your issue. Make sure you take with plenty of food and/or milk. I actually can't tolerate those types of meds well at all. I rarely take them, and when I was postpartum with DD, I gave them a try, and ended up awake at 4am in the hospital, pacing with upset stomach pain that was worse than the damn c-section pain!
Now I refuse them and just go for the percocet. The nurses don't love it, but I just know it works better for me than the mega advils. And if you are on steroids, those also can really give you an upset stomach. You can try adding in zantac or pepcid to help with that pain, or even tums.

Sweating postpartum is how your body gets rid of excess water from being pregnant.
I felt like crap for a good 3+ weeks after my c/s. I also had horrible insomnia after my first son was born, I'd talk to your doctor and see if there's anything you can take to help you sleep. If you're nursing, our options might be limited, though. Hang in there!

I have the opposite problem - I get off the strong stuff (I've had hydrocodone and generic percocet post-surgry) ASAP because it gives crazy dreams that exacerbate the insomnia. If I end up with an RCS, I plan to just ask for the ibuprofin and avoid the crazy. Funny how everyone is different, right?

I actually take narcotics when not pregnant because of complicated migraines I get. So I'm more used to them, and some of those crazier side effects don't really bother me as much. But I know a lot of people don't like how they feel on them -- everyone really is different!

Yep, I had the crazy dreams on Percoset too. I was also really jumpy.
I agree with PP. It's major surgery and gonna take a while for you to heal.
Prior to my c/s I had very little swelling - after my c/s I was HORRIBLE! I had to buy compression socks I was so bad and that probably lasted, maybe almost two weeks? My feet couldn't fit into anything but my husbands flip flops; I was super fashionable!
I had a lot of the sweating too. It was horrible I hate to sweat! When it came to the sleeping I did alright because I would take two pain med's or two benedryl and it would knock me out. I didn't get a lot of sleep when I was pregnant so I was worn out! Ha .. then I really didn't get any sleep when the twins came home from NICU!!!
When you sit down during the day try propping your feet up as often as possible. If possible prop your hands up some too with pillows and what not. Make sure your getting lots of fluids too .. even though if your like me you feel like you have enough fluid to last 3 people.. LOL
I did not feel like myself for several months =( good luck .. hang in there
Re: 1 week post csection still feel crappy
I'm just over a week out and sweating at night and can't sleep much either, but other than that I'm ok.
I am taking steroids so it could be a combo of both for me

You had major surgery and lots of drugs pumped through your body - it's going to take awhile to recover.
What kind of pain meds are you on? Are you taking steroids? Those can affect how you heal and how you sleep.
