Lap Update

Surgery was first thing this morning. Both tubes were in very poor condition so they performed a salpingectomy on each side. Any last hope I may have had for a miraculous natural pregnancy is gone forever. I pretty much saw this coming, but I still have some mixed feelings about it.

They also found endometriosis at a severe state. The endo is adhering to my abdominal organs and Doctor S didn't want to risk removing it because it could consequently significantly decrease pregnancy success. However, they did remove a chocolate cyst found on my right ovary and ran contrast through a catheter to check for bladder endo.

I got some good pain meds and I am looking forward. Not backward!

Follow up phone consult with Doctor S is next week. I welcome any words of wisdom or stories of encouragement from endo sufferers. This dx is new to me.

Thanks for the well wishes yesterday!!

  • I am sorry the results weren't as expected but now you have a few answers and can have an informed outlook for the future.

As for severe endo, I have a coworker who has two children 6 3 and had several laps over her years of TTC. Her endo was so bad she had a hysterectomy 6 months ago at age 29. I don't know if this story helps or hinders but I wanted to share because she had 2 successful and uneventful pregnancies.

Good luck sweetie and rest up!

Info from a lurker, hope it's okay!

I had a stage IV endo dx and a choc cyst removed from my right ovary as well. We went right to IVF and were able to conceive on our 2nd fresh cycle. It's worth noting that they weren't able to take all the endo out during my lap because they weren't expecting it to be so bad. Also, by the time of ER for IVF 2 it was back to stage III and my RE drained some blood filled cysts while he was in there. Clare was born two weeks ago, so it is possible! My right ovary did seem to misbehave more during stims, but still produced follies. I also used intralipid and pine bark extract during my cycles at the urging of my RE. Hope this helps a little and good luck with things going forward!

  • So sorry about your tubes and the endo. The best news is that you are in highly skilled hands and I hope they come up with a great plan of attack for this next cycle.

Big hugs and understanding about not conceiving naturally. Since we've had so many losses, Mister D and I have decided that we don't want to risk having more, so in essence we made that same decision ourselves. I'm sorry it's been forced on you due to circumstances. Take your time to grieve.

Hope your follow up goes well and you're recovering well. Thinking of you!
