Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Need advice from a pediatrician

My son went for his first vaccines yesterday. As the doctor was administering the PC vaccine, the vial seemed to break and the vaccine shot out onto me (I was holding my son). The needle was in his leg. Here's my question: the doctor wants to readminister the vaccine next week, but I'm concerned as we have no way of knowing how much of it he actually received. Is this dangerous? Should I wait until the 4 month shots? Please help!

thank you.

Re: Need advice from a pediatrician

  • The minimal interval between true doses is 4 weeks. Children get a total of 4 doses of this shot. 2,4,6 months and then again between 12 and 18 months. I would just ask to wait till 4 months, then 6 months and you can do an "extra" at 9 months just to be sure you have enough coverage. That's what I would do anyways. The whole thing is very unfortunate. I'm sorry!

  • If you need advice from a pediatrician, I'd call another one, or see another doctor in your practice. I'd just trust your pedi though. Why would your doctor lie to you?
