Babies on the Brain

Successful Conception???

Hey all, just wanted some thoughts opinions...

My friend gave me some ovulation tests for fun (I think)... I just got off my BC (paragard IUD - non-hormonal) on Feb. 1st.  I took the ovulation test Tues and it was negative, but Tuesday night I felt the ovulation (I have Mittleschmertz) so we had sex.

Wednesday morning I took the ovulation test and it was positive.  We didn't have sex Wed. because we just had the night before and Thursday was Valentine's day.

So Thursday (yesterday) I took the ovulation test again and it was negative, but we still had sex Thursday night.

What are the chances that we possibly conceived?  And how long exactly are you supposed to lay down after sex so the swimmers have a chance?

Thanks all and Happy Friday

Katie

  • I guess I'm a little confused at all the negativity and sarcasm here... I read that elevating your feet won't help so I don't appreciate the ergonomic table...

I was just looking for some support here, because I'm new here...looks like I was wrong...

Do you REALLY want to hear my experiences? Take a gander at my signature. Six years, four IUIs, two m/c's and in the middle of IVF. None of that helps you.

Have sex. Learn how your body works via the fertilityfriend.com tutorials and the Great Sperm Race videos on YouTube. And for the love of Pete you don't need to elevate your hips or anything else.

Six years of infertility and loss, four IUIs, one IVF and one very awesome little boy born via med-free birth 10.24.13.

  • I know that people have had problems, my mother almost died from an eptopic pregnancy, a friend that had a stillbirth and a miscarriage, and one of my best friends had several miscarriages so I know the troubles and I feel deeply for every woman who wants a child and cannot have one.  I won't say I know how you feel because I don't, but I was just looking for some support and or encouragement.

I did not mean to hurt any one but I am just excited as this is my first time.  I had hoped that women here could relate and remember what their first attempts at conception and how they felt during that time...

I am very sorry but I just did not expect so much negativity...

Based on my experience, you didn't conceive.  I know when I O because I temp and I have never gotten pregnant from EOD sex.  I have also never gotten pregnant from ED sex.  In fact I have been TTC for 18 months and have never been pregnant.

    Does that help?

I was lucky enough that sex worked for me. Other's have had to do far more to get pregnant. No one else's experience will correlate with your own.

"I stammered, unable to form a coherent thought because I have a vagina."

If this was a response to me, apparently I had a snark fail.

Nobody else's fertility has an impact on wether or not you conceived this cycle.  Just because my husband and I have not been successful, does not mean that you will not be successful.

I recommend checking out Fertility Friend and reading Taking Charge of your Fertility.  Charting your BBT will tell you when you ovulated and you can see if your timing was decent.  It will also let you know when you can take a HPT and get reliable results.

  • OP, lurk around the boards to get a feel for how things work around here, check out www.fertilityfriend.com, and check out the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Good luck.

  • Hi OP,

I'm a big lurker but just wanted to give you a little more insight. A viable egg can live for 12-24 hours and viable sperm can live for 24-48. So physiologically speaking, sex the day before ovulation and after is a pretty spectacular idea. As for lifting your legs, I'm not positive but I think it's just a myth.Good luck!

  • I want to apologize on behalf some of these women. Not a single one of them here, is here and writing on message boards for any reason different than you--they're here for support. And in this case, a whole heck of a lot of those women have been anything but supportive. They've clearly forgotten how their minds worked, the words they used, and the assumptions they made before they'd began the now more intense study of HOW to get pregnant. They do make good points though otherwise, which is that no one here can give you tips that are guaranteed to succeed for you, regardless of whether or not it did for them. Peoples bodies and cycles are so different. I do agree with the advice to check out fertility websites, and other boards on this website for some insight into the science behind the whole idea of conception. However, if you're as new at this as you say, my advice (however general) is to keep doing what you're doing for a little while. Right or wrong, in the beginning of TTC, best to just have fun and get into your own "groove." If that doesn't work in itself, then it may be time to start charting, and checking, etc. Again, I apologize for the negativity you received from some of the other members. What a terrible way to be greeted to the site. Just know that if people refuse to be understanding of your feelings and thoughts at this stage, they're clearly missing the point of this whole community. Keep your head up and stay positive--that's the most important thing.

I'm sorry, you seem to think you have permission to speak for me.  With 21 whopping posts you don't even know me, let alone have permission to apologize for me.
