Breastfeeding

Cold/Flu Medicines

Hi ladies!

I didn't see any posts on this topic, so I wanted to reach out to get advice from other more knowledgable mamas. I have been breastfeeding my son for 9 months now without any illnesses, but yesterday I started feeling really terrible - sore throat, running nose, etc. I was wondering if there are strong opinions as to which cold/flu medications are best to take while breasfeeding. I have some (expired) dayquil I am thinking of resorting to until I can get to the store and look at other options.

Also, my son has his 9 mo appt today at the pedi, so I was planning to ask their opinion while we are there.

Thank you for your advice, ladies!

Re: Cold/Flu Medicines

  • I have s great app on my phone called lactmd and it reviews all medicines from a nursing standpoint, effect on the baby etc. you may want to check it out. I looked up dayquill for you and it says all good. It says if you use it regularly it could start to decrease your milk supply but to use it here and there you are good. Benadryl is safe too.
