Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Coos??

My baby is 3 months. I am worried because she coos a little but nothing to write home about. She makes eye contact, smiles a lot, makes noises when she is irritated and she defininately can hear well! I know I am jumping the gun a little getting worried but wanted to know if anyone has had same concern.

Re: Coos??

  • Mines 2 mo and really doesn't coo much either. She's doing all the same things as yours but cooing is just not her thing yet even though I'm dying to hear her cooing and laughing. I would expect more from your LO this month... from a medical perspective I wouldn't be concerned about it as long as your sure she can hear and she's otherwise developing appropriately (which it sounds like she is)

  • DS hasn't cooed yet either, but he does make vocalizations that are like little "uhhhhhhh"s when he's super relaxed.

I wouldn't worry about it yet -- wait til her 4-month visit and then maybe bring it up if she hasn't yet.

  • Try not to worry. DS want a big tasker when he was tiny but by 18 months he turned out to be very advanced with speaking.

  • My DD didn't coo or babble much but by 20 months was talking like the average 3.5 yr old. Don't stress.
