Baby Names

Anastasia CP

We are set on Anastasia (Ann-uh-stay-sha) and thought we liked Catherine but are thinking of some other options for the middle name too now.  We like long names.  Last name is 2 syllables and starts with B.  DS is Theodore Robert called Teddy if that makes any difference.

Re: Anastasia CP

  • I voted Anastasia Margaret. But really, they're all good solid choices.

You scared me for a minute with your thread title, I thought you were reconsidering Anastasia. I was like Nooooo, austenreader, noooo!

  • Anastasia Catherine or Anastasia Elizabeth but I may be biased but I live the Elizabeth

  • I think Catherine flows the best.

    Margaret is my second choice.

I think Anastasia Elizabeth is a little too "ahh-ahh" sounding if that makes sense.

    Why do you say that?

You are aware that the name Anastasia was around long before the book was written?

I have never read the book, consistently forget it even exists and liked the name before that. I realize some people might give me this reaction IRL (though from what I understand the book sucks character and plot wise without even taking into account that it's basically a story based entirely on sex so I don't understand why anyone would pick the name because of the book. I hope a trend doesn't arise because I will judge the heck out of parents that say they picked their name from this book) but I'm surprised to get it on here.

Seriously? Anastasia is a gorgeous, classic name that has been around forever. Austen is actually the first person on this board I have seen name her baby Anastasia and that book has been around for years. When it hits #1 on the baby name list (a la Isabella) I'll start saying that 50 SoG has had an impact on baby naming. Until then, it is just a pretty name that is underused IMO.

  • First of all, I LOVE all of your choices! We have very similar taste, and we actually considered naming our girls every single name on your list, including Anastasia. Ha!

The meanings of all those names are beautiful. Margaret means "God's Pearl", which I love. However, I voted for Josephine. We went to the hospital to have LO2 with a name list, and Josephine was at the very top (we ended up naming her Lydia). I vote Josephine!

  • About 50 Shades...I think that the name is a classic!!  It is lovely!  I read the books and enjoyed them, even if they are poorly written.  I studied literature in university and I would never say that these books are going to be classic at all but it was a fluffy read that was fun.
