can you tell a difference? some things i can like right now i'm eating some store brand crackers and they taste nothing like the ritz crackers i had last week. but other things i can't tell a difference
I can tell a difference, but usually it's not a big enough deal if I'm getting it fr a good price! DH is a brand name person, if I send him to the store he spends way more than me because he has to have name brand!
I'm picky about certain items like coffee, peanutbutter and toilet paper. If I need a can of corn to mash up for a dip, generic works just fine. DH likes cereal bars to keep at work and I always get those generic. I mean, he eats them in 2 bites and I doubt he even actually tastes them.
With some stuff, I can totally tell the difference. Like soda, chips, and cereal. And Dh hates store brand syrup. I do use store brand pasta, spices, butter, and milk.
I try to buy most things generic. When I had DS1, everything had to be name brand. I've since learned that most of the time, you can't tell the difference.

I can almost always taste a difference, but even in items where I can't tell the difference I'll always check the ingredients label too. Sometimes generics have longer ingredients lists with more questionable ingredients tossed in, and I steer clear and pay the difference in those cases.

I have a friend who worked for Darigold. He straight up told me to buy store brand. They just slap a different label on the milk.
Some things I can tell the difference and others, I can't. I just remember what thigns I like and don't. Some things I have discovered I don't like generic -tampons (especially Wal-Mart's version), diapers, dishwashing detergent and cereal! Some things I do like generic - basic condiments, like ketchup, mustard, etc., canned vegetables, and ibuprofen.
My best friend's boyfriend absolutely refuses to eat anything generic.
My friend once bought generic aspirin from the Dollar Store. She accidentally dropped a tablet in her bedside water glass. She left it there. Three days later, the pill was still sitting there, completely intact.
I still buy generic meds from well-know store brands, such as the ones at Target, Walgreens, etc. Just not the Dollar Store.
I always buy store brand milk. I can't tell any difference. Trail mix is store brand... my spices too. Oh, and any sort of soda... no Dr. Thunder here!!
Some things, like cereals or crackers mostly, I can tell the difference, so I get name brand.
I just had my psych class do an experiment on this. The class could tell the difference for most things - OJ, oreo, chips ahoy. The market basket chips were actually better than ruffles and the generic popcorn was better. I think it was 50/50 on tap v. Dasani water.
We do lots of generic because we shop at Aldi's... but I have found we like alot of their brand better than name brand. We will not do generic for soda or pet food.
Re: brand vs generic
// I love you too. //
Toilet paper, peanut butter and soda have to be name brand.
Everything else I'll buy generic.

I feel exactly the same about these two things.
