Toddlers: 24 Months+

Does anyone take their toddler skiing?

DH is taking DS, who is 3. I am not a skier but DH is very experienced. It makes me so nervous.

Reassure me? Thank you.

  • I wanted to bring her snow tubbing but anywhere I looked into it they had to be 4 or 5, are you sure they'll let him go?

  • DH and I snowboard but we took DD up on her skiis about a month ago just to get her used to her gear. If your DH is experienced I'd let them go. :)

  • DH and I are very good skiiers. Well, DH is an expert. We plan to start DD at age 3. Skiing is such an amazing, fun thing to do. Your DD will hopefully love it. Relax! It will be fine! I wish I could have started at age 3.

  • Mine is only 2 but next year we fully plan on getting our daughter out on the slopes.  All of our friends started at 3 and their kids are all amazing skiiers.  We ski all the time and are excited for her to start.  We are in the Rocky Mountains so skiing is a big part of our lives - they start lessons at 3 as well.
  • DD is 3 and we would have totally taken her skiing this winter, but she got sick.  DH is an experienced skier(I snowboard), and I feel totally comfortable taking DD.  The ski resorts we looked into start lessons at 3.  If it makes you feel better, your kid is just probably going to practice standing on the skis, balancing while moving, and making the wedge to stop.  It's not like he'll be going down black diamond slopes or anything.
  • My BFF has taken her 2.5 year old skiing. Another good friend's daughter is about to turn 3 and she skis every time they go to CO... and that's pretty often. I say go for it!

  • Yep, both our kids started skiing at 3. Well DS actually started 3 months before he turned 3. The first year he wore a harness so we could control him while he got used to balancing and the feel of skiing. This year (JUST turned 4) he is skiing on his own! Both kids love it, and we love being able to ski as a family now! We go up almost every weekend during the winter.
  • I haven't done it yet as I was pregnant this year and too jealous to sit inside while DH took DD, but we will definitely be going next year when we can take turns.

For the flip side, I started skiing when I was 2.5. My parents were big skiers and I did a combo of ski school and going with them. I loved every second. DH and I got married at a ski resort and spent our honeymoon snowboarding.  As soon as you feel your LO is physically able, I say go for it!
