Special Needs

issue

ive never posted on here, but am in need of  suggestions as i am in a total bind. i love my LO.. first time mom and never felt more fulfilled. i am due to go back to work in 2 1/2 weeks. i am going to miss her with all of my heart, but know that this is a good choice as this will financially be best for the family. i also posted on another board as i need all the suggestions i can get.

here is my huge issue- my LO has some health issues. nothing major thank god, but she is a needy baby. reflux and larygomalachia (vocal cords not developed and constricted) we have been trying to find the best place for her to be in for a few hours a day while we are at work.  an in home sitter is not an option as we dont feel comfortable with a person we do not know in our home.

well, a common cold turned into croup for her and she was admitted. her laryngo exaserbates it because it is constricted to begin with.  LO is home now, ,but dr has given strict orders for no daycare next week. we were going to start her next week.   i go to work the following week. so im in panic... she seems to also be suseptible to getting more sick than the average baby because of her condition. ive tried looking into in home DC..family members to watch her..nothing. what do i do? i dont want to bail out of work so close but im up agaisnt the wall.  i also asked the pedi for a letter to possible extending my leave for the remainder of the school year.  (been out since sept)

suggestions?

Re: issue

  • I know it's not the answer you want to hear but given what you've explained here I think a nanny is your best bet. Heck, if I had to work I would choose a nanny for the first two years for the one on one care and we aren't dealing with medical issues like that--just developmental delays.

  • A nanny is your best bet. It really is. We put DD in daycare for almost a year and she was sick all the time. It was not the best place for her. In the time she has been home she has been doing great!
  • What state are you in?  Some states have special needs daycares (our state does but none close to us).  DD2 has a periodic fever syndrome and in the beginning was in the hospital a lot on/off, I had to drop down to 1 day/week then 1 day/month because I just could never work between the two of them.  She wasn't allowed to go to daycare either & did get sick alot bc she also had low IGG/IGA levels from an immune disorder.

It's really hard to give advice because for us it was more financially reasonable for me to stay home with them, especially given that we had appointments everyday of the week, usually more than 1.  You could contact a local disability resource center and see if they have anyone who specializes in infants with health issues, some places keep a list of names, or 2. Speak with your supervisor and just say look she isn't allowed to go to daycare and I don't really know what to do and see what they say your options are.

    ;-  Good luck.
