Anyone taking Nexium? My gastro doc wants me to take it for acid reflux and possible ulcers, but I'm afraid...has anyone else taken it in the first trimester??

I was, but mine told me to switch to zantac "just to be safe"

Nexium is ok to take. I took it the entire time I was pg with DS and he's completely healthy. I'll be taking it this time too. Zantac is like a placebo pill for me, and if I don't take Nexium I breathe fire and regurgitate acid all day long. Nexium can be very expensive, so Dexilant is a cheaper alternative. For me, it works almost the same. You can get discount cards online for both, too.

Thank you for your reply! I really wanted to wait and take it in the second trimester, but I'm finding it more and more difficult to wait.

Yeah, I can understand wanting to wait. But I would say go for it and stop suffering. The main reason why most meds say to talk to your doc if you're pg or nursing is because they won't run clinical trials on pg or nursing moms. Some meds, such as Paxil, have been linked to birth defects. But as far as I know and going with my experience, Nexium is fine and my OB was/is completely fine with me taking it all throughout my pg. GL! I hope you find relief soon. I'm out Nexium right now and waiting for pre-auth for my ins, so my stomach and esophagus are not happy with me at all.
