Based on recommendations from friends, we went with the Gemini to accommodate facing out. Folks who loved the Ergo were generally fans of the Gemini. I head a lot about back/hip pain associated with the Bjorn.

Have you considered a woven wrap? When DS wanted the forward facing action, I was able to get him high enough on my shoulder using a woven wrap that both of us were happy. He's 20 months now and I still put him high up on my back.
You could also hike the Ergo up really high on your back with the waist strap more at chest level to try and see if LO likes seeing forward. <--- not for long-term use, just to see if that's what's desired.

Neither. I had Bjorn and it was awful on my back, shoulders and collar bone. I had an Ergo, but my kids hated facing in.
I plan on getting a Beco Gemini. You can wear your baby facing in, out, on your hip and even on your back. They cost $130
