Has anyone had one yet? I am going to need to get one after my next appointment and I was told it takes about an hour, and they give you a solution to drink. Is it a sweet solution or should I be prepared to want to vomit afterwards? Lol.
I have had one that was unrelated to being prego, but the drink tastes kind of like orange drink from when you were a kid. It is about the size of a mini water bottle. If you don't mind orange drink or can stomach it then you will be fine. I suggest chugging if you are concerned about the taste, its only like 5 sips.
It's sweet and nasty I've had orange and a grape once before, this time I have a fruit punch. If you get to bring it home, make it as cold as possible and it goes down easier. But I usually get the shakes from it and I'm a huge sweet eater.
It tastes like a super sweet drink. I was offered orange, lemon lime and another flavor that I can't remember off the top of my head. I wanted to puke after I drank it but I am not a sweets lover to begin with.
In my opinion it tastes like flat orange Crush. I agree with PP, drink it quickly, don't take your time too much. The colder it is, and the quicker you get it down the better. It doesn't taste horrible, but it is crazy sweet. I hate it because the baby usually kicks the crap out of me for a while. So, I already feel sick to my stomach because of how sweet it is and then I'm actually getting kicked in the gut too. Great combo. Basically, I just feel like I super over did it on the sugar, and have to chug water the rest of the day and be mindful of what I eat so the crappy feeling doesn't hang around.
When I've done it before, I had to go 12 hours without food or drink, and nothing during the wait time between blood draws. They gave me 2 bottles, both roughly the same size as a small water bottle. It was orange, thick, and unbearably sweet. I was given 5 minutes to drink both bottles in the lab, then my blood was drawn at 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and then again after 60 minutes. I felt like I had to hurl after chugging it, and I had this horrible man standing over me telling me, "Don't puke, it has to stay in your system!" It was a very long hour feeling that way, but I got some pizza immediately after the testing, and felt great. That was 6 years ago, and our new doctor said that was WAY too much for the test - she's surprised my numbers were so good with a sugar overload like that.
Basically, what I'm saying is, yes you might be nauseated by it and it could make you sweaty and jittery, but as soon as you can get some real food into your system, you should feel fine.

I'm going in tomorrow to have mine done. Have to get tested a little earlier than most because I failed the 1 and 3 hour ones last time with DS. Here's to hoping I pass this time around.
Everyone is right though, tastes like a flat Orange soda or a melted orange popsicle. I didn't think it was that bad and felt fine after drinking mine but I was a work and kept busy so that may have helped. During the 3 hour one though I almost threw up, I felt horrible.
I did it when I was pregnant with DS. The drink is super sweet - like too sweet. It didn't feel great going down, but I didn't throw it up. They have to draw your blood exactly an hour after you drink it. With DS I failed the one hour but passed the three hour.

I had one done around 11w and it wasn't that bad... like a supersweet orange juice
I had one done earlier this pregnancy. I was expecting the bottle to be much bigger, but when they brought it out it was only like 8 or 10 ounces. It's doable. I passed the one hour, so I didn't have to do the longer one. I heard it's much worse.
It's no big deal. The drink tastes like extra syrupy flat soda. Not the greatest thing you'll ever drink, but I think lots of people overexaggerate how "bad" it is.
I had to do the 3 hour test [which is what you have to do if you fail the 1 hour, and what wife described above]. I had to fast for 12 hours and drink two of the sweet drinks between three blood draws, and it still was no big deal. I didn't feel sick or shaky or any of that junk.
For the 1 hour, you drink the drink and they draw blood an hour later. My OB's office sends the drink home with you so you can drink it at home and get your blood draw when you get there rather than sitting around the office for an hour.
Mine is at my next appointment, when I'll be 25 or 26 weeks.
