Hi -
DH and I are considering a flying vacation with DD this summer (she will be about 7 mo). It would be a 2 segment trip: 2 hr flight, then 5.5 hr flight.
Do you have any suggestions/recommendations for flying with a young one? I want her to be comfortable. Or, am I crazy to think that a little one can handle that?
Re: Longer flight @ 7mo?
feed her on the ascent and descent, and make sure you have plenty of diapers. Also, as PP said, it is helpful to travel when LO sleeps.
This would be a flight up to Fairbanks, AK....almost everything coming into Fairbanks from our neck of the woods arrives there around midnight. I'm thinking she'll be sleeping pretty well on that flight!
Thanks for the helpful words. My family is a bunch of homebodies..so they think we're bats#%t crazy for wanting to travel with DD!!

She will do great!! I flew when DS was 6 mos old and he was a dream. Slept most of the time. When we flew again he was walking age and it was a TON more difficult. He didn't understand that he couldn't get down and crawl/walk around when the seat belt sign was on. This led to a lot of fussing/crying/meltdown at the end of the flight.
Beware that many airplanes don't have a good place to change a diaper. I've changed diapers on the floor by flight attendants' jump seats several times. Floors there are gross!! Also pack a blouse for yourself in your carry-on in case of baby spit up or pee through diaper in your lap. Travel now--you'll have a great time:)
We went to Ireland for the month of November. I took my three girls over seas to go see dad who was there for work. I didn't go by myself. My parents came with us for the first two weeks. We booked all three of my girls seats. Leah who is five sat in her RXT, we bought a bubble bum for my seven year old, so she sat just in the plane seat. Eryn was in her Chaperone. If you can afford it I would purchase a seat. Eryn is six months. She has been back and forth from Miami to Canada five times, and to Europe once. She went on her first flight at 5 weeks, due to a friend of mine being killed. She has never been a lap child. She has always has had her own seat. Pack extra clothes (both for you and baby) and diapers in the bag.
