AWD Mini Van?

LO #1 will be 2 years 2 months when LO #2 arrives and we have a 60 lb black lab. So my beloved little Ford Focus isn't going to cut it anymore.

I'm kinda obssessed with the idea of automatically closing doors, I want to be able to transport the grandparents for short trips around town, want buckets in the second row instead of a bench, and so am strongly leaning mini-van over SUV.

All Wheel Drive is a must for DH. Our other car is an ancient suburu wagon, but even that's hardly big enough for just LO#1 and the dog for a road trip when you need to pack the stroller, and the pack n play and the dogs crate, etc etc.

Your recommendations? And GO!!

Re: AWD Mini Van?

  • The only minivan that has AWD is the Toyota Sienna.  I looked into this quite a bit recently since we are about to get a new car and I also need 4WD.  I actually decided on the Expedition EL (the long one) because of our needs with 2 large dogs and because we need 4WD for the mountains.

  • I have a VW Routan and although it's not AWD I just wanted to let you know the automatic doors are heaven! My two year old can get in himself and get into his seat, all I have to do is buckle. The room and comfort of a minivan make it all worth it.

  • We don't have the AWD version but I have a Sienna and LOVE it.  The sliding doors are awesome, we have the DVD player, navigation, reverse camera, automatic lift gate, push button start.  You don't have to have your key out to unlock it...as long as the key is in your bag/on your person somewhere, it automatically unlocks when you touch the door handle.  I love that when my hands are full and I am carrying DS2 I don't have to fumble around for my keys.  It drives really great....DH actually loves to drive it when we go out as a family because of how smooth it is compared to his truck.  Can't say enough good things about it!
  • Toyota Sienna!

  • I just got a (used) Honda Odyssey and LOVE it.  It's not AWD but I don't have a lot of need for that.  It has remote doors that are amazingly convenient and tons of room.

  • Do you need a mini van? They don't make them anymore, but you might be able to find a AWD Ford Taurus X. It's more like an SUV and it has most of the stuff you want.  I love mine!

  • Like others have said, the only AWD minivan currently available is the Toyota Sienna.

I have a Sienna, though not the AWD version, and it's a good kid hauler.

  • I have a Chevy Traverse AWD with captain chairs in the second row. I love how it drives and all room since we do a lot of long distance traveling with our 2 labs along.
