How did LO start STTN?

Was it gradual, waking up later and later until they weren't up until 6 or so? Or just a random stretch that stuck? LO was going down at 9 and up at 5. But now it's down at 9 or so and up at 3 or 2. Ugh. I feel like we're going the wrong direction here.

Re: How did LO start STTN?

  • Dd has always been a decent sleeper, unlike her older sister. When she was going to bed at 11 she'd sleep till 6 or 7, then back down until 10 or 11. As she went to bed earlier that was only moved a bit earlier, it was great since DD1 still wakes up a few times a night. Then a week ago she started getting up around 2 or 3. Not only that but she is also fighting going back down, will either stay up for an hour or so or will wake every 45 minutes the rest of the night. I'm assuming its a stage, I'm not sure how to fix it. I was ready to move her into her crib bc her reflux is much better, but not if I have to get up every hour.

  • Im have the same problem. LO was sleeping from 10-4 (yay! 6 hours in a row!) then back down until 7:30am. Now shes up at 3am and wants up at 7am. Going backwards! So frusterating but im sure things will get better. Im just not patient. lol

  • I don't know what you consider STTN, but I guess mine never has yet with the exception of a few nights of 10-6. But she has always been a good sleeper. Usually from 9/10-3am. Eats. Goes right back to sleep until 6 or 7. I think LO is in the same boat as you guys with waking up a bit more and although shes not hard to put back down it does seem like she is more awake after eating. I think there is so much growth going on physically and mentally around the 3 month mark that this is normal. I'm looking forward to STTN but for now I'm hangin tough!

  • Up until two nights ago, O would sleep from 10-3 or 4, wake up for a bottle & go right back down until 6-7. Two nights ago, we started making sure he didn't take more than an hour nap after 6 or so. If he is sleeping longer than an hour, we wake him up & play until it's bottle time. We try to make it so at 9:45 or so is his last bottle, then he goes in the cradle at 10. The past two nights he's slept from 10-6. I'm hoping this sticks! He will now wake for a bottle at 6 & go back to sleep until 8-9.

Maybe making sure your LO doesn't take a long evening nap will help?

  • My LO has had a consistent bedtime (6:30 pm) and wake time (6:30 am), but his waking period in the night varies. Usually he gets up just once, but it will be anywhere from midnight to 3:30 am. A handful of times he has woken up twice. Twice, he has slept the whole 12 hours.

  • We would go to bed at midnight and he would wake up at 330-4. I would feed him and go back to bed until about 830-9. We did this for a few weeks. Then I decided to try 10pm bed time w/ no night feeding. It was a success. We worked on that for a month.

For about last month or so, we have started bedtime routine about 530-6, with a bath, feeding baby, I cook and DH and I eat, then Z eats his last bottle between 730-830, then he is in bed by 9. He was going to bed about 815-830 but DH doesn't get home until about 8 and he wants to see LO. I also give him an extra half ounce to an ounce to push him over the edge and it won't be a fight to get him to sleep. LO sleeps between 10-12 hours a night. Now he doesn't sleep much during the day. Maybe like 2-4 hours. His longest nap is in the afternoon.

It's pretty much however you want to experiment and what works best for you.
