Success after IF

First PP period?

Hi Ladies...

Is it completely crazy early for me to get my first pp period today? LO will be 7 weeks on Thursday.  I did have that D & C at 3 weeks pp.  Since I am exclusively breastfeeding I just thought it would take much longer.  Most people I talked to said it returned a few months pp.When I tried to google the answer it seems like it varies so much.  I really don't want to call my Dr.  and it seems like normal AF to me.

Thanks for any input!

Re: First PP period?

  • I got mine at 10 months. But I did have some bleeding at 6 weeks, which was not a real period. I remember hearing that bleeding up to six weeks after birth was normal. Maybe you're just a little late with normal pp bleeding and it's not a real period.

  • My son is EBF and I got my first pp period at 12 weeks. Sure enough, 32 days later it was back again. I'm majorly annoyed.

This would be my guess. The 6 week bleed is a thing. GL, hopefully that's it.

I'm thinking this too. With both of my kids my PP bleeding didn't stop completely until 12 weeks with DD and 10 weeks with DS. It got lighter, then would stop for a day, come back for a week, stop for a few days, come back ... it was super irritating. I mean, it's possible that it could be AF, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't.

  • I still had some pp bleeding at 6 weeks. I ebf and never had a natural AF and I stopped bfing at 14 months. But it really varies.
One of my friends ebfs too and hers returned at 4 months. So it could be.

  • Thanks Ladies...

I did decide to call my Doc and they said to keep an eye on it and if it gets really heavy to call back but in the meantime try to keep my feet up while nursing...

I don't really know what to think...I mean I wouldn't think anything of it if it weren't for all the weird stuff that happened.  I thought nursing usually delays it and that is fine if I am getting it early but I didn't bleed a whole lot after the birth, then I didn't bleed a whole lot after the surgery or the 2 rounds of methergine so I don't know.  It feels like AF though.

  • I didn't get mine until 16 months pp.  And that was likely only due to night weaning.  That said, it is different for everyone.
