Cord stump still there!

How long did it take for your baby's cord stump to fall off? DS2 will be 3 weeks old on Thursday and his is still hanging on. It looks fine, as far as no infection, etc., but I'm ready to give a real bath and not have to worry about that silly stump anymore, not to mention 3 weeks seems like a long time for it to stick around!

When we took DS for his two week check up, our pedi told us if it didn't fall off on it's own in about a week after that, to let her know and she could do some things to help it fall off.

Have you been cleaning it? Our pedi told us to make sure we get around the edges really good with a Q-tip dipped in alcohol; prior to that we had been just using a cotton ball to clean around it, not getting super invasive. Once we started using the Q-tip and cleaning the inside edges (between the skin and the cord stump), it fell off about 2 days later during his sponge bath. Sometimes it just needs some loosening around the edges to help it.

The pedi pulled DD's out at her one month check up. DS's just fell out yesterday at 2 weeks.

Both of my kids had theirs until after 3 weeks. The doc told us to get a cotton ball pretty soaked in alcohol, and basically drip it onto the base. Two days later DS's finally came off.

The dr at the hospital told us not to mess with it. Our pedi told us to roll skin back away from cord stump. Once we started doing that it didn't take long till it came off.

DS didn't come off until 3w4, our pedi said upwards of 5 or 6 weeks is completely fine.

DDs took just over 3 weeks to fall off.

Thanks for all the responses! After a couple of days of more invasive cleaning with alcohol, the cord stump finally fell off today! I feel a first bath coming on tonight! Funny the things moms get excited about, ha ha...
