Delivering at St. Joe's Oakland?

Hi Ladies, I'm new to the board. I'm pregnant with my 2nd baby, and this will be my 1st baby born in Metro Detroit. I just found out my OB only delivers out of St. Joseph Mercy-Oakland. I have friends who have had babies at St. Joe's in Ann Arbor, but I don't know anything about the hospital on Woodward in Pontiac. I'm a little nervous...

Re: Delivering at St. Joe's Oakland?

  • I delivered there. Dr. Corsi was my doc. The labor and delivery area was great but I was not impressed with the mother baby wing. I am a first mom and I left the hospital very unprepared for my daughter's coming home. Perhaps maybe I didn't ask enough questions but I will not deliver there again. As for safety, it is perfectly good they are in the process of doing construction so you have to park a little far away but I never had any problems.

  • Thanks for letting me know :-) I'm sorry you had a bad experience with them. I didn't have a very good experience with the hospital I had my 1st at (out of State) either. There are so many more doctors, and hospitals to choose from around here--it's nice, but a little overwhelming

  • I love St. Joes. My dr. is Dr. Corsi as well. I live 2 miles away from Royal Oak Beaumont and my husband I choose to drive the 20 minutes to St. Joes. I agree that the Mommy/baby isn't 100 awesome, but I wouldn't deliver anywhere else. If you are still in need of a pediatrician, we love Dr. Baraceros. She's right across from the hospital and does rounds there. I have a 2.5yearold and a 1.5yearold, plus one due in April. We have never had any issue get in for same day appointments. She is the only doctor and really is available anytime.
  • Please don't let my experience scare you.  I think a lot of why I thought it was not good was because I didn't go to the hospital prepared and I didn't ask questions.  Over all if was good but I will choose Huron Valley Sinai over St. Joes. Even if it means switching doctors.

  • I had my 1st there and plan on having my second there. I had a great experience~ except for my dr :-/ if you are in labor you park in the ER lot so the walk is not far. construction will not be done until next year.

ask for Fran as a nurse in MB~she was like a grandmother figure. she came in at 4 am because I was in tears and overwhelmed and sat down on the bed with me. answered all of our questions and then some. she was fantastic!

as for safety~it's not so bad. it is on the outskirts of Pontiac. my suggestion is to just be aware of your surroundings and you will be fine. but I would say that while shopping at Somerset too. I also work at SJMO and I haven't been afraid there

  • I also delivered my first son there two years ago! Love the hosptial, awesome staff for the most part Dr Corsi is my OB he is wonderful hands down. I have been with him since I was 13 years old. His whole office of OBs is great and must have high qualifying titles too get into his office. I would highly recommend Dr Corsi to anyone along with St Joesph hosptial, yes the one in Pontiac!
