Thayer?

I want to get general feedback on this name for a boy.  It's pronounced to rhyme with "player".

It's really outside of my style, but I can't get it out of my head.  I first came across it maybe 10 years ago in a novel, and has stayed with me ever since.

What do you think of it?  Is it terrible?  Do you hate it?

DD is currently obsessed with the book Beady Bear by Don Freeman (who wrote Corduroy). The boy in the book is named Thayer ? the author tries really, really hard to make it rhyme with "bear."

It's NMS, but I don't think it's horrible. It's the sort of name that I'd consider if it were a surname in my family.

This is the name of a town near me. I don't love the name, but I don't hate it either. It could probably grow on me.

I'm not sure, on the one hand I could like it if I were to meet a little boy named Thayer (positive association). On the other hand, it comes across as a bit 'wannabe cool/hipster'. I don't think that it's awful, but it's not a name that I'd put on my list (I prefer Theodore). So I agree with plunderb.

I like Theo but, it's my stepfather's name.  We get along, but I wouldn't want him to think we were naming our (imaginary, at this point) kid after him.

Ew.  I would not want to come off as either a wannabe hipster or even a real hipster-- lol!

I like it. It would have been on the short list if this LO was a boy, but it didn't work with DS's name.
