Babies: 3 - 6 Months

vaccines

Are people getting their LO's vaccinated with all the vaccines on schedule? We have been getting our LO vaccinated and now I'm having concerns about the fact that maybe we should have waited.  It's probably too late to hold off on his 6 month vaccines.  I'm sure they need to do them in a certain order.  Anyone having their LO get the flu vaccine?  I think I'll say no to this one.

Re: vaccines

  • We are doing all vaccines on the schedule. Probably also the flu vaccine when the time comes. I used to work in the vaccine research industry so for me there was no question if we would be doing them or not.

  • We are vaccinating on schedule.  I think you have to be 6 months for flu vax - so ds2 will be getting it next year.  I have been getting flu shot since I was pg with DS1 and DS1 has been getting them since he could.  DH never got the flu shot then got the flu last year - he got the shot this year.

  • We are doing vaccines on schedule. It was what our pedi recommended and we are going with his recommendation.

  • Yes, we are vaxing on schedule.  My pedi said it best, IMO.  "The entire CDC, AAP, and 99% of the pediatricians across the world are not in some major conspiracy to poison your children.  Vaccines are a necessary short term discomfort for long term health."

  • We are staying on a normal schedule for now but my son was just diagnosed with a rare skin disorder so we might start delaying them out as they may cause a reaction in him. We will probably skip the flu shot this year because I'm concerned DS might be sensitive/allergic to eggs and it's the end of flu season anyway.

IMO, this is a perfectly legit reason to delay vaccines.  Hope your little guy is ok!

  • we were told the flu vaccine they get is not the same as ours.  different type of flu anyway.

we're getting all of them done at the times reccomended by the aap/our pedi.

i know on here there is always a debate, and i have no issue with people who want to spread them out.  personally i'd rather LO just have them over and done with than have to make extra trips and feel icky extra times.  we've never had more than 5 done in a trip (3 shots, 2 up the nose) and she's not had a bad reaction so far.

This.  We are in the same boat and are skipping flu vaccine this year as well.

  • We are doing on-schedule, but splitting them up into 2 visits a couple weeks apart.

For example, at the regular 4-month visit with the pediatrician we got Hib, Rotavirus, and Pneumococcal. Then a couple weeks later we came back for a nurse-only visit and got HepB, DTaP, Polio.

So LO gets them all within the month he's supposed to, just not all at a single visit.

(We did this for his 2-month shots as well, and will also do it for his 6-month shots coming up next week.)

  • Thank you for your responses.  It makes me feel better about giving my LO all the recommended vaccines at each visit.  I just find it scary that he is getting so many at one time.
  • If you want more honest answers and alternatives, go to mothering.com.  I do NOT vax my daughter at all anymore due to reactions.  There is no law requiring any vaccination - not even for school - there are exemptions that apply everywhere.  Consider the number of vaxes babies recieve now compared to even 20 years ago.  Then consider the rise in things like life threatening food allergies, skin problems, add/adhd, autism, "fibromyalgia" and other such disorders which have become a catchall for what the medical community cannot determine cause of disease.  You tell me there's not a correlation.  Pharmaceutical companies spend a lot of money lobbying to push their message - even trying discredit anyone who goes against the grain with holistic or nutritional therapies.  No one can advocate for you but yourself and you have to be an advocate for your kids.  JUST because someone tells you to do something, it doesn't mean they have your best interests in mind.  I do a lot of research on my own and I can to the decision based on what I read that vaccines are not for my family.  And unfortunately for many people, they won't make that decision until they have a child who's been severely injured by a vaccine raction (which btw the drug companies vehemently deny this is even a possibility).

Food for thought, most vaccines contain the following: mercury, formaldehyde, antibiotics, fetal tissue/DNA, MSG....

  • We are breaking up the big ones. Our paediatrician was scared when we first mentioned it, but she's ok with it now. The 6 month and 1 year are a lot of shots so we're doing half and then the other half the following month. He's 7 months so he just got the second half, including the second half of his flu shot. Already we notice significantly less reaction... No fever, less sleepy, less fussy. We're happy with it. We believe he needs all the shots, but breaking it up a little just makes it less miserable.
