Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Not interested in bottle anymore?

Granted DS was never a good eater, ever since starting solids he has been really bad about taking his bottles. This started about 6 months and now he is 7.5 months. I've chalked it up to teething, sickness, congestion, but after all this time it hasn't gotten better. I will always offer the bottle first and he'll take about 2 or maybe 3 oz before he starts squirming and fussing. So I end up mixing the rest with oatmeal or whatever fruit or veggie to feed him afterwards. Has anyone else experienced the lack of interest in bottles because of solids? Both my daycare provider and LO's pedi said its not common but it does sometimes happen that they lose interest in the bottle and would prefer solids. But I'm worried about his milk intake. FWIW, he's still on BM and he takes on average 16 oz plus 1 MOTN nursing and 2 servings of solids. Any advice?

  • What level nipple do you have on his bottles? Maybe he needs to move up so he gets food faster from the bottle? My DD (6 months) has recently started getting frustrated w/ her bottle, shaking her head and turning away--which I'm taking as a sign that she's ready to move up to level 3 (she still eats her entire bottle, though, unlike your son - it just takes patience and coaxing to keep her interested)

We have been using the medela bottles and using 412 month nipples. So last week I switched to avent naturals and used fast flow and he still does the same thing. It's not only him losing interest but he will start crying when I try to feed him the bottle.
  • Are you FF?  My LO lost interest in the taste of his original  formula.  We would struggle to feed him.  Took him 45 minutes to eat 6oz.  We tried a different formula and he is a new eater...sucks down his bottles.  I would have never thought, but my friend who is a pedi nurse says it happens sometimes.

No I still pump and give him BM. I know this may sound crazy but I'm thinking about trying different brands of formula to see if maybe he likes it better. I'm just at a lost and feel like he's not getting enough milk
  • My son has been doing this too. He used to consistently take 8 oz, but the past week or so, he's cut himself back to 4-6 oz. he also get twice daily feedings.
