Cloth Diapering

I sewed my first inserts over the weekend.

I bought 1 m of bamboo fleece for $17 total from a local acquaintance.

I decided to eliminate waste, I'd just divide it up into as many rectangles as I  could. It looks like I'll make 8 2-layer inserts about the same size as an Applecheeks inserts. Which considering those sell for $9 each new... not too shabby.

I went with the very simple "sew three sides of a rectangle, turn it right side out, sew up the opening" method. I am NOT a sewer, and I got the first 4 done in about half an hour. Including pressing the fabric.

Now we'll see if they perform as well as the Applecheeks!

  • Thats awesome! Most bamboo inserts are at least 3 layers thought aren't they?

  • These are big enough to fold, so they'll be either 4 or 6 layers depending how they're used. Two layers wash cleaner than sewing them into insert rectangles instead of folding. The applecheeks are almost big squares (12" x 13").

Ah! I didn't know that about the apple cheeks ones. Where did you buy your material?

  • It's from Wazoodle, but a local mom is a diaper seller on Etsy who buys by the bolt, so I just bought it off her. The shipping on small orders tends to kill online fabric shopping.
