Hospital Distance

I saw this on first tri board. I have wondered this myself, so I figured I would ask my lovely fellow August ladies.

I am from a small town. My OB and hospital was an hour and 15 minutes away with my first two babies. With this pregnancy I switched to one that is 35 minutes away. The extra distance made me nervous! I don't want to drop a baby along the highway. I feel like the third is going to walk out. Ha!

How far away is your hospital?

Re: Hospital Distance

  • With no traffic, I'm 5-10 minutes away.

  • Thankfully only like 5 minutes away and they have a great NICU.

BUT I live in a small city

  • This time I'm delivering 45 mins away. With my first, I was supposed to deliver a couple miles from home. My LO needed the nicu, so I delivered an hour away.

  • Ours is about 35 minutes away.

  • Lol. Sending good thoughts that number 3 isn't born on the highway!

I am about 10 minutes from the hospital. I live outside Indianapolis. My hospital does not have a NICU, but baby could get to one in under 10 minutes if he/she needed to be transported.

  • 45 min or so.  There are at least 3 other hospitals closer but I love my doctor and I love the way this hospital runs their labor and delivery.

  • Ours is about 30 minutes without traffic, 45+ with traffic.

I figure as a FTM, that I will have plenty of warning. I think it will work out. I am not that worried about it.

  • Mine is about 15 miles away. It takes about 20-25 min to get there.  When I had DS, it was so anti-climatic and simple I am hoping this time is the same and I dont end up with something crazy like delivering in the car (happened to a friend of mine with her second. She waited too long to go to the hospital and delivered in the car on the side of the road)

  • We are about 15-20 mins from the hospital.
  • This post makes me feel better! Right now we live about 7-10 minutes from the hospital, but we're thinking about moving across town which would make the trip either 25 minutes (no traffic) or up to 45 minutes (traffic). However, the hospital I'm delivering at is the only one in the city that allows midwives, which are a part of the practice I go to.

So...I guess if we move I'll just be proactive about calling in the labor. And pray for a nighttime/weekend baby.

Cool! I like Evansville. I drive there about once a year to visit a friend that has family there! I am from Chicago suburbs but have been living in Fishers for the past 6 years.

    this!

  • 10-20 minutes by car, depending on traffic--except we don't have a car (and aren't planning on getting one any time soon) so we'll have to factor in time to take the bus or get a taxi/call a friend or family member for a ride.

  • The hospital I am delivering at is about a 15-20 minute drive.
  • I also live in a small town, so the city is about 45 minutes away so probably an hour before we get to the hospital. I'm not too worried about it though, it's what everyone from here has to do! Including what my parents did.
  • I'm 20 minutes from my hospital.

  • Without traffic 30 minutes, it would double in the event that I need to get there during morning rush hour. I'm hoping to not go into labor between 7 and 9 am Mon thru Fri!

  • About ten minutes, without traffic. Probably 7 or 8 in the dead of night. And half an hour plus in winter traffic with snow; thankfully doesn't look like that'll be an issue!! lol

  • Our hospital is actually less than a mile and a half from our house. It's actually on the other side of the park that surrounds our development, lol. I guess it's at most 5 minutes away at any given time of day.

With no traffic about 20 minutes away.  In rush hour 45 minutes to an hour.  So I hope this is a night time baby.

I'm in the same situation, but with traffic it could be more than an hour, definitely no less than 45 minutes. I hope this is a night time baby as well.

  • Ours is 20 minutes away. My last labor was really quick so I'd be nervous if it was any further!

  • We have the local Trauma hospital "down the street" about 5-7 min.  They re-did their postpartum rooms about 2 years ago (right AFTER I delivered, ha!).  I'm pretty stoked for the nice new room.

  • Hee hee, I am literally about 800m away. It is a 1 minute drive and I could walk it in 10 minutes. Love it :
  • On average it takes us about 30 minutes to get to, however, with traffic and time of day it can be dicey. If we go during rush hour, it could take upwards of and hour or more to get to.

They are opening a new hospital in June. I hope its open because I want to deliver in a nice new room!! :) I hope it doesn't get delayed!

  • We live on a small island right ourtside downtown Tampa. The hospital, as well as my Dr office,  is actually on the island so its .25 miles away  :) I walk or ride my bike to my OB appointments! I love it! Even if we lived to a closer hospital this is where I would want to go. They have a newly remodeled Women's Ward and all the birthing rooms have waterfront views, pretty nice!

I hope I go into labor while I'm home because it would probably be over 30 minutes from work and hubs works in the opposite direction!

  • Our hospital is about 35 minutes from our house. I think there are a couple of other hospitals that are around 25 minutes away, but our hospital is better by far and has a Level III NICU, so it's a no brainer. Plus, it's <1 mile from my work and with my son, I did go into labor while at work...
