My mother is from Germany - and as a child we would visit yearly due to all of her family being there. i haven't been in about 10 years. I didn't see my grandfather before he died. My grandmother's 90th birthday is in May - and my mom wants me to go over (with her and my dad) and supries my grandmother. She thinks that it would make my grandmother so happy to be able to meet LO. Problem is -- I would have to make a 9 hour flight (including 6 hour time change) with a 14 month old. YUCK. Am I crazy for considering this? I would leave Lexington, KY at 1:00pm, arrive at Charolette NC an hour later -- 3 hour layover. Leave NC at 4ish - arrive in Munich at approximatly 8am (their time....2am my time)
WOW

Re: 9 hour flight with a 14 month old
Are you from Lexington? I live in northern Ky, but went to UK.
I live just north of Lexington in Paris -- if you went to Uk - you were only about 20 minues from where I live. I went to uk for a while too. I'm sure that it won't be fun at all. Dealing with a toddler -- ALONG with my fear of flying.....I have the biggest fear of a plane crash
(although I know I have better chances of being struck by lightning). DH doesn't think it's a good idea -- he has a bigger fear of flying than I do -- I think that's why he is afraid of me going. Ugh...what to do -- what to do!!

I took my older DS from Chicago to London at 14 months, the way over was great, he slept the whole way as it was an over night flight and I think the sound of the engines acted as white noise. The way home wasn't quite so easy.
Some of the international planes have "bassinets" which can help, unless of course you buy a seat for your LO and take the carseat with you. You're not crazy to consider it, honestly it sounds like a wonderful opportunity.
