Toddlers: 24 Months+

Done with naps already? nooooo

I don't know what's going on with my DD, she's only 2 and 2 months. She naps at daycare every day, on weekends, no more naps. She lays in her crib, door closed, singing talking jumping for 1.5 until she pees and we have to change her and try to keep her there for more.  Then as soon as we get into the car to go somewhere that afternoon, she's out and if we take her out of the car and put her down, she'll sleep for 2 hours.  Its getting ridiculous.

I thought she wasn't tired, so we tried sledding or gymnastics in the morning, no difference.

anyone going through this?

  • Have you tried moving her nap later?  DD moved her nap from starting at 1pm to starting at 2:30pm. (We didn't move bedtime, but DD has *never* fallen asleep quickly at bedtime, it's always ~1hr or more.)

  • We are going through the same thing, except I SAH, so no naps during the week. She needs the nap, but moves around so that she won't fall asleep. We moved to a toddler bed in Nov, which required me to sit with her until she fell asleep because she just wouldn't sit still long enough to fall asleep. Now that I have a nb as well, I've stopped fighting it. I will nurse him for 30 min in her room while she lays down, and then if she isn't going to fall asleep, I leave her to play by herself for at least an hour in her room. At least she's getting some down time. My grandma said that my mom took naps through kindergarten, but my aunts stopped naps at 2 and 3.

  • My DD dropped her nap almost to the day of her 2nd birthday.  I make her do quiet time in her room instead.  It took awhile to get her actually do it and not just scream bloody murder but things are fine now.  :)  She actually naps a few times a week now - which just started about a month ago.

  • I'm with you, i hate it! We have done everything to wear that boy out each morning but he still fights it. Like others, we are just letting it go at this point. If he sleeps, great. Otherwise he has to stay in his room and play by himself for some downtime for both of us!

  • I was going to post something pretty much identical tonight.  My son is the same age and today for the first time, stayed awake and played in his room for-ev-er and never fell asleep for his nap. I couldn't believe it.  I expected him to be a bear until bedtime, and he was a little cranky, but not very.  I expected at LEAST another year of naps, if not two...so if it's really over, I want to cry!

  • DD did that around the same age. Then magically a few months later she started napping at home again. Then about a month ago, the same week our baby was born she had a teacher change at school and hasn't napped but twice at home and a few times in the car since... I'm not sure she'll ever get it back now, but she sure acts like she wants and needs it!
