I keep a small basket in the car with extra diapers and wipes because I always seem to be running out of diapers in the diaper bag. Or I go to pull out the wet wipes and realize that someone pulled them out and they're sitting on the kitchen table at home. In the diaper bag I keep a few quiet toys, a reusable wet bag, boogie wipes, gripe water, a teething ring, change of clothes, bib, burp rag, nothing too unusual. I've also added a spoon to the diaper bag now that DD is eating solids.
Re: What?s the most (surprisingly!) useful thing in your diaper bag?
Holly cow thats a lot! have two diapers for each kid, wipes, travel diaper cream, snacks for the toddler, a hot wheels car, binki wipes and that's it.
In my car there's extra diapers, wipes, cloths, blankets, burp cloths, toys, and cups for each kid.
Most useful odd thing is hot wheels cars, I've even loaned them to other moms in restaurants who were desperate with cranky kids.
diapers, wipes, a wetbag, diaper cream, my wallet and a toy.
Those little Arm&Hammer scented trash bags have been a lifesaver on several occasions.
Also, a RTF bottle of formula with a screw on nipple have saved the day from a meltdown.

Same here. While I always throw the diaper bag in the car Just in case, I rarely ever need to touch it. We dont bring it into stores or restaurants and rarely even bring it into someones house when we go over.
