C-sections

repeat csection brand new doc

I am planning a repeat csection in May. It's been 8 years since I had my 1st daughter. This go around I have had a low lying placenta since my 16 Wk check. It hasn't corrected itself. My next check is at 28 wks but I've came to the decision even if it does correct itself a csection would be easier.
So here's my issue. If my low lying placenta doesn't correct itself my csection will be higher risk. I have a new doctor who is literally brand new this is his 1st practice. That freaks me out!
Anyone else have a new doctor and how are you easing your fears that your doctor might not know what the heck he's doing?! He has been great so far. But I'm nervous. Maybe there are some questions I can ask him to put me at ease?

Re: repeat csection brand new doc

  • There is usually another Dr from the practice to assist in the surgery.

  • Even a brand new doc has probably scrubbed in on close to 1,000 c-section during residency -- plus, as the pp said, he will have an assist.

  • I had a pretty new dr too started at the practice less than a year before I started seeing him and I was actually glad he was my dr. Unlike some older drs who have seen/done it all, he was very patient, very thorough, took me seriously and always discussed things in detail when giving his recommendations he never made me feel pressured at all.

I'm also friends with one of the LD nurses and they all really like him too. He's respectful of them unlike some of the more senior drs with big egos, and being fresh out of school he's up to date on all the most current information and techniques. Obviously every dr is different but I really liked having a pretty new one. And like pp said, don't forget they get a lot of practice during residency.

This- and his skills/knowledge are more likely to be up to date, and there will be an assistant in the OR as well.
