dinner

do you eat dinner with your kids? the only time i eat with mine is when i have an extra set of hands over. i will cook but then make a plate and save mine for when they are in bed otherwise is hard to enjoy it. i'm guessing it will get better when they are older

Re: dinner

  • Yup, always have.
  • The only nights I don't is when I go grocery shopping.  DH eats with them those nights.

  • I always eat with her when she's awake at my meal times (not usually breakfast).  I can't imagine doing it any other way!

  • We all eat dinner together.
  • Usually yes! We normally eat when DH gets home from work around 5:30. Once every few weeks DH and I will wait to eat once DS is in bed. We will try to make something nice, light candles and listen to music. Sitters are hard to come by here and it's nice to have a date night 'in' every once in awhile.
  • Dinner, yes, so long as we're home (DH works late a lot so for that reason he often doesn't eat with us).  But on the weekends we usually wait to have lunch until after he goes down for his nap.  The timing works and it allows us a little down time.

  • I think it's weird for parents not to eat with the kids.  Kids learn behaviors by observing you as an example.

Yes, I eat with my kids and have since my oldest was a baby.  She'd sit in her high chair next to the table while we ate.

Life isn't always easy, but that is how kids learn.

  • Yes, unless we made something that is taking a long time to cook and it runs past bath and bedtime.

  • I don't usually. Or I might take a little piece of what she is having and put it on my plate, to encourage her to eat it.

My daughter wants to eat dinner at 5:15-5:30 usually. Which is too early for me, and my DH usually isn't home yet.

Eventually once she starts wanting to eat dinner later-, then we will eat together.

I do give her our leftovers, so she has the same types of food as us.

  • We do. I think he eats better when we all eat together. I know he's too young now, but I always ask him about his day at dinner. I want to establish that as a habit in hopes that he really will talk about his day when he's older.
