What kind of helmet is he getting? One of my boys has had a DOC band for 6w with probably another 6w to go. We're so happy with the improvements already! My husband painted ours to look like R2D2 [you can kind of see it in my siggy].
Married 9/22/07, began TTC 8/10
Diagnosed with DOR, LP defect, mild endometriosis and cysts
BFP #1 EDD 9/10/11, natural miscarriage at 6w
BFP #2 Medicated cycle, twin boys born 4/4/12 at 29w4d
BFP #3 EDD 8/8/14, D&C for missed miscarriage at 8w, baby boy with triploidy
My DD wore a Star band for 4 months. It was completely see through all the way around. She could have it off for an hour a day, during which we used rubbing alcohol to clean it. She did get pretty sweaty in it, but it was summer so... It really wasn't all that stinky though.
Expect some sleep disruptions while your LO adjusts. Expect some stares in the supermarket. People just don't know what they are for; they think there's something wrong with your baby. It might be harder on you in the beginning than it is on LO! Now I feel compelled to go talk to the mom whenever I see a baby wearing a helmet- just to offer support and say "I been there". Just be confident that you are doing what's best for your LO.
It was SO worth it IMO and it made a great improvement for my DD. We are very glad we did it and in the grand scheme of things she only wore it for a blink of an eye and she was done. She did PT too but I think what helped the most was us doing the stretches at home.
Oh... and with the Star band it was super easy to decorate it with stickers. We changed them out every week, it was kind of fun! And they were easy to clean off when we wanted a change.
Re: Helmet time
Found out today it'll be a STAR band. Did you have to use an additional varnish or modge podge on top of the paint so it won't chip off?
I was thinking of getting the decals that say "fixin' my flat"

Good luck! I wish you the best.
