Natural Birth

So discouraged

(Reposted my month board) Hi ladies! I don't post very often (although I do admit to lurking quite a bit, but I could just really use some positive vibes right now. I was originally a January mom (due on the 28th) and I'm STILL waiting on this baby! Wednesday evening I started getting contractions and having spotting/losing my plug and got all excited. Fast forward to this evening... Still having contractions, but they are sporadic (but painful!) I had an appt today and my NST came back great and baby has dropped a lot, but no dilation. I have another appt on Tuesday and I'll be 42 weeks and he said to call if they get to be three minutes apart consistently. I have been planning a natural birth and so thankful that baby is ok and my doctor isn't pressuring me, but right now I'm so tired of this and just want her out anyway they can. These non-dilating contractions are going to make me crazy!

  • Loading the player...
  • Hang in there!  Remember dilation is just a number, you can go from 0 to 5 cm in no time.  Maybe try some good old fashioned sex or a long walk to kick things into gear.
  • All the work being done is for a purpose even if you can't see it yet. Sometimes babies are not on.a great position and prelabor is the effort to get into a better position. Try looking through the Spinning Babies site. Then breathe..Speak to your baby... Practice labor relaxation techniques slow breathing, etc.
  • I feel your frustration. DD was born at 42 weeks. I remember that last week of waiting felt like forever. People kept telling me "no one's pregnant forever" which at the time was really annoying to hear, but really no one is pregnant forever and eventually your baby will decided it's ready to be born. It took my daughter a threat of eviction to decide she was ready. I went into labor 3 hrs before my scheduled induction.
Hang in there. Sooner than you know it you'll have an outside baby.
